Christmas Loungeroom

Christmas Loungeroom

For all those who are both celebrating and avoiding Christmas this year the Chistmas Loungeroom is a place for us all to hang out. It is especially for those who will be alone throughout this Christmas period and as a place to come together and enjoy the company of others in what can be a difficult time for many.

Feel free to post your stories, images, grievances, etc. of this period and to leave messages for other members to help each other get through this time of year.

Christmas day can be extra hard for some so this is a place for us all to get together on the day and share it with other members.

Hi @eth am feeling better now that I got call to father out of the way. It went okay. just ended up him talking about his hearing aids mostly. ok at least that's not casting aspersions on me lol How are you going? saw your post about long rave in ..long rave thread .. lol

Re: Christmas Loungeroom

Today went reasonably ok thanks @TAB. The challenge will be having mum here for the next 3 days. At least she's staying in a motel nearby so she won't be able to knock on my cabin door at all hours of the night like she did last year. The reason I'm so wary of her company (other than what I said on A Long Rave thread already) is that last year's visit from her sent me into hypomania which lasted a few months. I do have more support and better meds this time around so hopefully that won't happen this time.

Glad to hear you went ok with your call to your dad. We spent a fair bit of today's time with mum and uncle (78 and 80) talking about various relative's recent health stories, some of it quite gory details. Not exactly appropriate but what can you do? When they're at that sort of age they're not likely to change and they do expect to be respected and just listened to. In my book respect has to be earned and you have to show some to get some, but I managed to STFU most of the time today.

Re: Christmas Loungeroom

oh dear re mother @eth hopefully no lasting effects this year. last few trips home learnt even stfu isnt enough I got the whole gamut, could not do anything right. everything was questioned, then rage at me then I became invisible all the while while being required to be there. had to escape to a motel then that was wrong etc, whats wrong with no aircon when 28deg inside etc etc I didnt know you were coming, why did you leave ga aha ha mum died 18mths ago fathers 94 and just does and says what he thinks. ok only to some tho haha

Re: Christmas Loungeroom

Sounds pretty awful @TAB and pretty similar to how it was for me in the years after I left home while mum and dad were still together. They'd be rowing when I arrived and within 10 minutes they'd be saying I started it. I took off to a motel a few times too.

Still, I'm sorry your mum has gone and understand that your dad is a challenge but you still want to have a connection with him. My dad's gone too.

I was estranged from mum for many years and only decided when she turned 75 that I wanted to find a way of having some sort of relationship with her before the end of her life. What's happened in recent months is the most difficult it's been since then. I don't want to hurt her but she has hurt me and I need to have some boundaries with her.

What are you planning for tomorrow and the day after? Or just cruising through it?

Re: Christmas Loungeroom

Today was ok @Shaz51 - not as hard as it could have been. I've already raved about it here and on A Long Rave thread so won't repeat it all. Sounds like your day was pretty good overall. Sounds like hubby's doing a bit better at the moment.
