Something’s not right

stuck in a rut

stuck in a rut

I haven't been that great. Things aren't at crisis point but I'm not coping in a healthy way. It's almost been a year to the day since I had a mental breakdown. I've gained 13 kg that I can't lose and I am self harming daily. I know I'm in a more honest place but I'm feeling so rattled by how I'm just sitting here in the muck and not getting any better at any decent rate.

Hey @Angels333

I'm sorry things are crappy for you at the moment.

I'm really glad you've touched base here, as things don't have to get to crisis point before a response can be put in place.

Can I ask who's supporting you at the moment? If you're harming on a daily basis it sounds like you could do with some extra support? Building in distraction techniques, self soothing exercises and alternatives to harming e.g. using ice blocks, that sort of thing could be useful. Typically psychologists delivering CBT can assist with changing behaviours.

Tell me what a normal day is like for you?

Recovery really is an individual journey...

Tell us more about how you came to be in a 'more honest place' and what that involved, if you can share?

Re: stuck in a rut

Hi @Karma I don't know if I can talk about a 'normal'day for me without triggering others. But today is a low low day. I have a very good Psychiatrist who I see weekly for psychotherapy. I had a psychologist who retraumstised me and gave me instructions on how to come off medicines. He did EMDR with me but it turned out he was not qualified for EMDR in the first place. It was while this psychologist was treating me that I went so low as to self harm. That was my coping technique instead of suicide and it's become an addiction all of it's own.

I go to work, I hide my scars so well, my husband hasn't any idea. I worry this will ruin our marriage of 16 years.

Hi @Angels333,

I just wanted to check in with you. How are you doing today?

I'm sorry to hear about the experience with EMDR with your psych. When are you seeing your psychiatrist next?

Hope things are bit brighter today.

Cherry
