Cohabitants

Cohabitants

I'm slowly starting to realize that the toxic people in my life create more stress than relief. I know that isn't some new found revelation but it's something I feel creates one of the biggest struggles in life. How do you let someone so toxic go when you need them to feel complete? Or is the wholeness they provide nothing but the hope you've put into them. How do you tell someone to leave when their comfort is the one thing you long for most and why is that so hard for someone else to see?
The more I bring things like this up or have situations involving those closest to me, the more misunderstood I feel, the more helpless I become. It's like a never ending cycle that drags you along for the continuous ride until you lurch yourself from the wreckage either transformed or more beaten down than you ever thought possible.

Re: Cohabitants

I believe looking at the needs and benefits of our whole human life cycle is an important key to finding balance.

We need other people and interdependance is one of the trickiest things to negotiate. I tend not to call people toxic .. but some combinations of people are certainly better than others ... and sometimes it involves differing rates of maturation and different values.

I sometimes lived in share houses for 10 years from 16 to 26 and found it tricky .. I usully preferred to live alone but found that isolation too much ... aaahh ... that balance word again.

Hope you gain from posting on the forums

Hi @D94

Thanks for your post and sharing with us your struggles in managing these difficult relationships in your life. Those are some large and existential questions you are musing on… I don’t know if there is any one ‘right’ answer, but I hope we can help you nut out your thoughts a little bit more.

Walking away from ‘toxic’ relationships, especially if they are longstanding, can be really hard. Human beings are creatures of habit. Many people find themselves engaging in unhelpful or unproductive behaviours/activities/relationships in life, even though their logic recognises it isn’t good for them. So in terms of figuring out how to break away from these relationships… I wonder could I flip the question around and ask, what do you think is keeping you there? What is making you stay?

Look forward to hearing more of your story.

Take care,
Mosaic.
