Winds of change

Winds of change

Today in Sth. Australia we have experienced wild and wily winds. I am wanting to accertain if these winds have affected people in S.A. who have a mood disorder. I have bp2 and have been experiencing some aggertation and depression. (a change in mood). Many different winds around the world have a reputation for disturbing moods and behaviour, (ie.the Mistrals of Spain,Sirocco,The Freemantle Doctor and some others). I am wondering if there is some truth to it or if it is just a myth. If you have had an experience of such like, please do tell.

Hi @jay2 I'm not in SA but I do think there's something in the föhn or foehn wind idea. The theory is that positive ions in the air disturb people, both mentally and physically. It sounds plausible to me, given that light has such a profound effect on people.

My own experience is that all sorts of weather phenomenon affect my mood - I have BP1. The difficulty is isolating any one cause because there are so many variables.

This is quite an interesting observation @jay2 - thanks for sharing it. As @frog mentioned a lot of weather can effect some peoples moods. The environment around us and nature can really loop in with our emotions. I know there is also a good thread happening here around Seasonal Affective Disorder. It can also be interesting to reflect on weather that has positive effects on our moods - anything come to mind? I know that strangely enough a cold day can sometimes make me feel quite comforted. I wonder if you do anything to help you cope when you know it is a windy day and your mood may be effected?

Hi @jay2@frog@Former-Member

I’ve noticed that I get affected by the weather. When it’s cold windy and raining I tend to withdraw hide away snd be alone. I stsy in my shell snd prefer to not see or speak to anyone. I lack motivation and at times eat more.

I hate this weather today it’s really pushing me down to a dark spot.
