How am I exactly?
The inevitable question that I ask myself over and over again is how am I?
Or to be more specific, can I detect signs of mental illness? The answer is inevitably yes, so there I must go into more detail. Are these the everyday ruminations of a mind that may never be entirely well, or are they the signs of a worsening condition? Can I count the red flags that pull me into action like an ambo receiving a dispatch, or ...and this can be the most difficult question to answer ...have I already left the shore?
There is a point for me, when I become more like the creature that I seem so desperate to morph into and less like my sheep dog ego that strives to keep me within the bounds of civilization.
Sometimes I want to be the creature.
But mostly I am absolutely petrified of returning to my sickened past and I have learnt from harsh experience that I must catch myself before I leave the shore. For once I step onto my little boat I can no longer ask the question. I am no longer two realities; the nurse and the patient. I am only the patient and I sail off, oblivious to cognitive behavioral therapy and all it’s little cousins.
For how is it; that a broken mind can fix a broken mind?
