Changing the dial

Changing the dial

I'm getting on top of my disorder now. What I have learnt from my diagnoses of bipolar 1 disorder is the fact you go through large highs and lows.

I documented my days so I can read my mood charts for the future and have some knowledge of when I will slide down hill.

I controlled my highs by leveling them with mindfulness, not concentrating on my ideas or rapid thinking.

This has in turn allowed my mind to have more energy of a prolonged period of time keeping my highs at a stable mood with medication and mind intervention.

Lows have been so hard, each cycle felt stronger, some real dark times. What worked in positive intervention writing down on paper and talking it out loud what I'm grateful for and what I'm happy about. Forcing myself to do the things that I normal enjoy even though my mind does not want me to enjoy the task I force my mind into it.

We can all get through this just takes persistence as persistance will always beat resistance.

Kind regards

Pitz

Re: Changing the dial

Good morning @Pitz.

Thanks for sharing your perspective on how you manage the highs and lows of bipolar 1. The mood chart sounds like such a proactive idea to help you recognise when you might be heading downhill so you can incorporate your prevention strategies. I loved your quote "persistence will always beat resistance".
