Depression/Anxiety

Depression/Anxiety

I supposed depression/anxiety are two sides of the same coin. I find my depression worst in the mornings. I just have no interest in anything when it strikes. At its worst I wish i'm struck down by some terminal illness just to have a dignified, socially acceptable escape from living hell. I think unless you suffer from depression you can never fully understand what it is like to be in the shoes of someone who's depressed.

People say get up go for a walk do something. However depression completely saps your will to do anything. Your hold world is black. There is nothing to look forward too. Everyone's life is better than yours.

To give context I work in retail. Family business. A number of outlets in the family business. However year on year business is getting harder. We are a main street retailer competing against bix box operators with free parking. When the depression hits I imagine being penniless being forced out of business by the competition. Neither I or my siblings have any children. We are all in our 40s. The lack of offspring is another avenue of gloom for me. When i'm chirpy I imagine my siblings or I meeting someone and age doesn't loom so large. When i'm depressed I just think of our age and of my contemporaries who have families.

It's funny meds haven't worked for me. I find I slid down into the depression pit. At the bottom their is no light. I remember asking my frirend in all seriousness would she cope if I went. We are very close. It wasn't a cri-de-couer I was deadly serious and matter of fact.

I don't ever anticipate self harming. But I do find it alarming the difference between today when the world seems full of possibilities and the days when the black dog overshadows me.

I have never been someone to whom people are drawn. Aside from my friend with whom I have virtually daily contact I would rarely get an out of the blue text from someone. I live alone with my three cats who are my world except when the depression hits and hits hard.

Funny enough even in the midst of depression I never feel poor me. I simply feel helplessness. Utter complete despair. I particularly dislike when people say I know how you feel. How annoying.

Hi @fuzzywuzzy (Love the name)

Welcome to forums.

I have suffered with anxiety and depression for a long time, now 25 the first time it was apparent to anyone was when I attempted si at 9 years old.

Depression pit is familiar to me and I know the struggle to get out.

But don't underestimate everyone my best friend and one of my main support people completely understands what anxiety and depression do to a person but has never had it her self just cared for people who do.

And I know the thought system well and it's the hardest part to deal with is seeing the light past the depression.

My depression makes me feel like people would be better off if I disappeared.

I'm glad that you have a friend to talk support people help me so much I probably would not be here today without them.

Do you have other supports and not just personal ones it is good to get professional support to even if medication doesnt help you just talking to someone who is unrelated to everythin going on can be good.

And keep talking on here it may not seem like it at first but the people here are really helpful especially since they have similar experiences

Re: Depression/Anxiety

I have built a very self contained self centered life for myself with a lot of solo interests to pass non work time. When I’m feeling content then loneliness or isolation does not occupy my thoughts.

When depression strikes then being a solo operator can have its drawbacks. At the moment I’m in bed with two purring cats on my bed cover. Happy as Larry.

I have never felt myself a burden on others. A partial side benefit of a very self centered existence

@fuzzywuzzy

hi there.

i suffer from major depressive disorder, anxiety, cluster B ...mainly BPD, CPTSD and agoraphobia

i know what you mean when you say .....People say get up go for a walk do something. However depression completely saps your will to do anything. Your hold world is black. There is nothing to look forward too.

when you are in that space nobody understands whats its like to be in that deep black hole. unless they are going through it themsleves. its a hard thing to go through. and its hard for people to understand about it. they do say , do this and do that but it doesnt work like that. when your in that black hole , theres no way out until the time passes.

i know when im in that space all i want to do is lay in my bed and hide. hide from my kids , hide from my hubby, hide from this world.

People say remember what you have. Be grateful for what you have. Your so much luckier than most people out there. There are others worse off than you.

All the above counts for nothing when your in the grip of depression. You have nothing. You have nothing to be grateful for. Everyone else is luckier than you. Everyone else is better off than you.

When I'm ok I think why would I want to die. I'm going to die anyway so why bring it forward. Yet suicide feels like some kind of get out clause if life gets too much.

I will post random thoughts as they come to me. Endeavoring not to repeat myself. Thanks for all your replies so far.

Re: Depression/Anxiety

I'm ok for now. When I look back to think that I might wish myself terminally ill at the deepest point of a depression episode it seems insane. Yet in the pit of despair its perfectly rational and a logical get out.

It's a hellish place to be in your head. A blackness that permits no optomism allows no brightness. Only those who have experienced this darkness can truly understand the hell that it is.

For some reason the morning is the worst time of the day. As the day goes on particlarly if engaging with people I find I perk up. The dark clouds are still there just not as bleak.

Re: Depression/Anxiety

Hi

this is my first post. I became disabled in Feb 2018 . I thought it would be temporary using a walker and I would get back to work. It didn’t .6 months off work and the anxiety has well and truely taken over. I see specialist and have been put on meds.

push myself to get up and go. The worst part is when the anxiety gets too much and I start vomiting. Does this happen to anyone else?
