I'm studying 1st year psychology this semester

I'm studying 1st year psychology this semester

AND BOY! AM I ANGRY PANTS RIGHT NOW.

These little students wandering around..... "I think my ex has bpd what should I do about it".

Okay, if you're concerned, a kind word and support to get help can be AMAZING.

But on the other hand.... how fing judgemental do you want to be? You're not a professional, you don't know what you're talking about and you're throwing around some incredibly powerful words without any actual understanding of it's meaning and impacts. And they're sitting there talking about people as if they were less then they themselves are and pathological specimens and the goddamn lecturers don't do anything about it.

ARRGGHHHH!

@Former-Member Good to hear from you.

I was mature age at uni and there is definitely a generation gap from the kids that come straight out of school. First enrolment I was 23 so it was not that much of a difference, but enough. I focussed on the work and keeping bod and soul together Over 8 year in one place part time I had a few older friends, but it was hard relating to the kids out of school. They were all on their own trips.

If they are being over eager little diagnosticians, take a big step back from them. Try and keep private stuff for people who earn it. Keep it strictly business if they cant earn your trust.

Says Apple ... eye roll ... who is lousy at boundaries ... and feels she has earned the right for a bit of patronising back at "them" and humour.

When I did psychosocial theory, we had a daughter of pdoc ... dominating the class ...

but she was also nice and friendly at times ... but our worlds were so different nothing progressed. That was the way it was for me at uni. I have come to terms with it.

Having also taught and raised uni age kids ... when I went back for postgrad .. I actually like all the young kids .. a bit more perspective of years .. made it easier not to feel hurt by the different living standards and family support etc ..

I have never regretted studying.

Cheers Bella

I hear you, @Former-Member

I think some people think because they are undertaking a particular course of study they are "experts" in a particular field. What a crock! Yes, I agree with you. Even "qualified" specialists don't have all the answers. I applaud you for taking on the study. Good luck with it all!

That would have felt incredibly frustrating @Former-Member. Sometimes people can jump in prematurely to label experiences other than their own in that way. Hopefully, as they continue on with the subject, their understanding and awareness will grow. Are you enjoying your course? Sounds really interesting.

Re: I'm studying 1st year psychology this semester

@Former-Member - oh I get angry about things like that. People who self diagnose or diagnose others because they have a book on psychology etc.

I think you will find out that a few will end up dropping out of the course over time, because they are just not mature enough to get it.

Well done to you for going back to study. I think you will excel at this course.

This is just a filler subject, I’m majoring in Archaeology. No huge interest in persuing psychology, but lots of interest in learning it. Mainly interested in memory/motivation/learning theory.
