Does anyone else do things and then instantly regret it?
Yesterday I was out at a cafe with my new boyfriend. He discreetly pointed out a lady with a rather large bottom coming in for something to eat. I didn’t know what he was referring to so swivelled around in my seat and then made an amused face which I’m sure the lady saw. I instantly regretted it and chastised myself for being mean and disrespectful. I worried about it through the meal but didn’t know how to right my behaviour. Today I woke up feeling ok before remembering my worry from yesterday. I’m sure it would have hurt her feelings and I feel terrible for that. I know what it’s like to feel awful and hopeless. Now, I’m worrying that perhaps my smirk was the last straw and she’ll feel so bad about herself because of silly, judgemental people like me that she’ll do something awful, or just that she’s really sad and depressed. She looked like a regular, so now I’m contemplating going back there so I can smile at her and make her feel better.
I know I’m catastrophising but it’s taken over my thoughts today. I’m usually so sensitive to people’s feelings as I know how hurtful people can be. I’m not currently seeing anyone for my OCD and intrusive thoughts but I am on medication which doesn’t really seem to work. I also know that I’m using this site as crutch whenever I get overwhelmed but I don’t want to worry my mum and Dad about my stresses.
