Experiencing Life Without Medications
Hi everyone,
I'd love to hear (well, read...) people's experience and to receive advice on life without medications.
I have been on various medications for 15 years now. Since being diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder, for 10 solid years now I have taken a variety of mood stabilisers to antipsychotics. I feel as if medication is my life and I HATE feeling as if this were true.
My partner and I have been together for 5 years now and we are talking about starting a family... This is the starting process to get off medication so I can carry a healthy baby, naturally.
Of course my instinct is to have concerns about my mental health while adjusting to life with months without being medicated. I have amazing support from my partner, friends, family and my Psychiatrist who support my choice 100%.
I have started the process this week, tackling pills, one by one! I have given myself a healthy 12 months to tapper off all medication and allow myself that gap in between in preparation for pregnancy.
I understand each person is unique and we aren't the same, but some of our disorders have similar characteristics. So I'd love to see the opinions and advice of women that have done this process before and the men that have been by the side of their women through this life change.
Id love to know what has worked or assisted you, what interests or hobbies you have developed to help consume some spikes or cycles in your disorder.
At this stage, because I don't know the outcome after this pregnancy experience, I have full intention on becoming medicated again once it's safe to do so.
Id appreciate your thoughts and advice!
Thanks everyone!
Viola. 🌸
