My life partner has Bipolar ii

My life partner has Bipolar ii

I unapologetically care for my husband who after a long mental health crisis has been diagnosed with Bipolar ii + more.

It is a tough gig at times but I believe we can live well in spite of his diagnosis.

I understand that not all relationships can survive a diagnosis and this is no criticism or judgement on anyone but in this thread I would love to give to and receive encouragement from others who hold the same value I have, that is that I voluntarily chose to remain in union with my husband to the exclusion of others and to ride out the bumps of his mental illness.

Dubious humour is guaranteed.

@Shaz51

I don't know how I would go leaving Mr D at home alone to visit my Mum interstate. A trip may soon be necessary and he is not keen to go - although he will often say this and then change his mind.

don't know how I would go leaving Mr D at home alone to visit my Mum interstate-- that is tricky @Former-Member

how is your mum ? and has Mr @Former-Member say at all that he wont go with you when the time comes ?

. A trip may soon be necessary and he is not keen to go - although he will often say this and then change his mind. -- mr shaz has said this and said he will not go there but when it came to that time he did

but it is still hard as I see him not coping with it all , mum is okish again now but I am still doing everything -- he will say text him and he will pick me up when i am ready

Mum is not getting any younger @Shaz51, it has been over a year since I saw her (although we talk on the phone once or twce a week). She may need to move out of her home soon.

Mr D feels we need our own space @Shaz51 I don't think he would cope with looking after my Mum.

I don't think Mr Darcy is coping particularly well at present; his psychiatrist thinks he is doing fabulously. I hope she is right but time will tell.

Reminded again that we can live well in spite of a mental illness.

Yes we do need to grieve, acknowledge our new reality, but also to realise that this new reality does not need to be all doom and gloom.

@Faith-and-Hope will answer over here.

Mr Darcy is doing better in many ways but in other ways not. It may just be a case of that is how it is going to be.

Am seeing counselor to help me as I feel at times I am drowning in my questions around Mr D, his symptoms and his treatment.

I don't think that the answers as to handle some of the things I am struggling with 'are within us' and having people who will give suggestions how to handle situations is a tried and true method of learning.

Re: My life partner has Bipolar ii

I do agree @Former-Member. Going to a psychologist for me was to have someone else take a look at what we were going through, through my eyes of course, and advise me about what I was presuming / fearing / sensing / unable to understand .....

I found it invaluable, and validating, but without a diagnosis, I still can't ask specific questions of anyone about what is happening for us. I celebrate the fact that you can .....

I also love your manifesto of seeking to live well despite your hubby's mental illness. It is inspirational, particularly as our issues are steeped in genetics, as well as environmental influences. Even within a diagnosis, they won't be leaving us ..... it will be a matter of learning to live well with them amidst us.

Thank you for your ever-ready steady support, for me, and for so many others on the forums here. Are you feeling a good level of support in return ? Sometimes we soldier on, and others can have the impression that we are not in need of anything because we appear to be managing so well.

I do feel the love here @Faith-and-Hope 😁.

I ask the questions F&H but answers are not always forthcoming - too many unknowns.
