OCD daughter

OCD daughter

Please help with any advice or how to cope. My daughter has spent 4 hours, 6 packs of disinfectant wipes & 3 boxes tissues cleaning the tap. And now she's run out she's hysterical (it's now 3:23am)

Re: OCD daughter

Hi @C101

I have suffered with OCD for almost 30 years now and I remember having extreme fear of germs when I was a teenager. I used to wash my hands for half an hour at a time and at dinner time, would even place my plate of dinner under the tap to wash it too (which would ruin the food). I became quite anorexic. However my fear is no longer germs but anyways. Others have far better emergency advice than mine, but I can say this - please find your daughter an excellent psychologist that specialises in using CBT (cognitive behavoural therapy) and ERP (exposure response prevention), it helped me very much with my compulsions which were a response to the intrusive thoughts that I had and still have. It isn't easy - but it is *the* best treatment for long term recovery. It really works. Therapy can be slow sometimes so patience is needed. I Hope your daughter learns to cope with her OCD and feels better soon.

Re: OCD daughter

My daughter is 14 years old with OCD fully out of control . Now lives with mum but now her OCD has taken hold there . They are considering sectioning her to inforce medication and therapy as she refusing both for past 6 months. I'm here supporting all parents as they watch there beautiful babies disintegrate in front of them . I'm so relieved to have found this forums. I'm not alone.

Re: OCD daughter

Great ideas however
My daughter will not go to anyone anywhere anytime
And when we've tricked her into appointments she run down the back of the farm . Locked self on cars.hidden keys etc etc
So 6 months later she's deteriorating
We called an emergency meeting with drs and they asked us to bring her in for it ???? How?
Tied up by her shoes laces attached to the bumper?
So many other wonderful people have offered therapy and or treatment but she's flatly refusing it all.
So it's a waiting game , when will she break?
Can't look to the future too scary so Day by day .
As I've said to her siblings , we can't help her only she can do that .

Hi Thomson,

So sorry to hear about your situation.

If I were you - and I am not - I would probably "section" her, simply because you won't have that option for too much longer. There would already be trust issues because of the "tricking" incidents.
YOU have to decide as her parent, whether or not it is worth further jeopardising your relationship with her, or whether she absolutley needs some sort of intervention.Whatever you do, it has to be in her best interests.

Surely the psych or youth counsellor, or SOMEONE has some ideas.
Will they come to your home?

My daughter almost jeopardised her chosen career - but coming close to losing her scholarship, showed her that she needed help. She was lucky enough to have a brilliant student counsellor available. Is there someone at your girl's school?

My daughter has joined a Church group and I am only hoping that God never lets her down, because she is constructing her life using this framework. The Church has helped her where I couldn't - so I may just be a bit resentful.

Medication seems to be the key for her and although she still performs many of the rituals - she is doing surgery as a vet - so I guess some of her issues are founded in fact.

Sadly, this is a choice that only YOU can make. It is so hard because seeing someone you love deteriorating like this is heartbreaking. I would say to my daughter - I love you so much, why don't you trust me? I guess the decision is - is your daughter causing harm to herself or others?

I wish you all the very best with this.
Make sure you take the time to care properly for yourself and your family.
