SANE Forums Responsive project: Ask technical questions & report bugs here

SANE Forums Responsive project: Ask technical questions & report bugs here

This thread will be opened on the morning of Tuesday 5 June for people to ask technical questions and report any bugs they have come across on the new Responsive Forum Platform.

This technology behind the Responsive Forum Platform is not new - it's tried and tested, so we don't expect any issues - but better be safe than sorry 😁

If you have a technical 'How do I....' question, jump over to this thread first and then read posts in this thread, to see if the answer is already there.

If you don't find the answer, or have found a bug, please report it here and tag @Former-Member , who will follow it up.

Thanks!

Re: SANE Forums Responsive project: Ask technical questions & report bugs here

Hi @Former-Member

I found the “clear cookies” function on both devices last night and cleared the cookies, but there is still a constant need to sign in. It wasn’t happening so much yesterday morning (when I claimed to have a magic phone 😏) so that’s pretty random too 🤔

Re: SANE Forums Responsive project: Ask technical questions & report bugs here

Hi @Former-Member, further to @Faith-and-Hope's issue, I have discovered that the time the forum mosts (almost always) gets me to repeatedly sign in, is when I come to the forum directly from clicking a link in email notifications. If I come to the site first and check notifications on the 'alarm' icon from there, it doesn't happen (or at least not so much). Not sure if this might help track down issues that many of us have had with this for a long time. But thought it might be worth mentioning.

Re: SANE Forums Responsive project: Ask technical questions & report bugs here

My thanks to the moderators who made it possible for me to login in yesterday - I was so glad to be able to post

One thing I would like to be able to do is to have a "signature" after my post that appears everytime I post something - I don't know how to do that though - I see other people have that and I like it

Also - the new format is really great - so much easier to manage after the first little differences - it seems these forums are getting bigger and bigger and imo certainly valuable and a great help to those with emotional discomfort of all sorts

Thank @Mazarita. I am accessing the forums via notifications, so I hadn’t picked up that difference.

@Faith-and-Hope, I guess you mean you are accessing directly from email notifications? Might be worth trying going to the site and going from the notifications page there, to see if you get any difference from it. It would be great to solve this signin bug. It's been going on for so long. @Former-Member

Yes, did that @Mazarita and could move around without the sign-ins.

Re: SANE Forums Responsive project: Ask technical questions & report bugs here

Hi everyone,

@Faith-and-Hope and @Mazarita can you clarify this for me? So my understanding is that when you go through to the site via your notifications (in email?) it then asks you to repetitively sign in? However when you log in via the direct site this issue doesnt occur. Can you confirm I have understood this correctly?

@Owlunar to add a signature, you need to go to your profile (click your little display pic icon top right of screen) click 'my settings' and under personal click into 'personal information'. Here you will find a signature option! Once you have entered what you want for your signature, scroll down and click 'save'

@BlueBay unfortunately the quick reply has never let us use th @ mention tag option! It can be used to write a reply quickly without being brought out of the thread. Feedback around this though has been sent through to the project team.

Re: SANE Forums Responsive project: Ask technical questions & report bugs here

@Former-Member ..... yes, about needing to sign in through every notification access.

What I did after that was sign in through a notification, and then navigated around the site from that point, using links such as the forum titles, Search bar, or online notifications on the forum Home pages.

Re: SANE Forums Responsive project: Ask technical questions & report bugs here

@Former-Member, you've got it right about links in email notifications leading to repeated signins to the site. If we are already on site and using the notifications icon instead, then it doesn't happen (or at least much less frequently).

Re: SANE Forums Responsive project: Ask technical questions & report bugs here

@Former-Member, just did a bit of an experiment on the links in the email notifications versus the links under the onsite icon. One possibly significant difference I've noticed is that, when coming from email notifications, the link addresses start with 'http://'. By contrast, when coming from onsite notifications, the link addresses start with 'https://'. I think the difference between these kinds of web addresses does relate to security, so maybe that is related to why there are a lot of signins from email notifications. Hope this makes sense.
