Re: my son is terrifying me tonight

I agree with harsher penalties for those that attack ambos @Bunniekins but it still needs to be done on a case by case basis. For example those that have had a big night out and are drunk and attack someone is very different from someone who is having a psychotic episode. It is a really hard one to deal with though as both alcohol/drugs can cause an individusl to act in a way that they would not normally act when sober.

I don't think goal is the answer then - rehab may be better for those people - don't know - I am putting this one in the too hard basket for my brain today

Re: my son is terrifying me tonight

@Zoe7 The only other way would be to arm an ambo with capsicum/pepper spray or a taser .... but no the union is going for those with mental health issues ... I know the ambos wouldn't like that (I dont blame them). It is the too hard basket.

Just heard from my son's day care program and he has had an episode there where he was aggressie with a worker saying that the voices were saying bad things to him .... could be an interesting night ahead.

Re: my son is terrifying me tonight

Have you thought about a plan for tonight if your son is aggressive at home @Bunniekins - an exit strategy while things calm down maybe?

I agree with @Zoe7 @Bunniekins

You need a safety plan for tonight - I really hate the thought of your going through another session like the one you had at the weekend

Start with the Salvation Army - they have shelters all over the place

I will be thinking of you

btw - what do you know about Tough Love? - this means you let the person know that you love them but you have no intention of putting up with their bad behaviour - and it is really hard to know what is bad behaviour or the MI but you need to be safe cause it hurts just the same if you are injured either way

I know you don't want the police involved but this might be the only way - he might have to learn the hard way that if he scares and hurts people this is what will happen - honestly - there were times many years ago when the local police were my best friends

Wishing you the best

Re: my son is terrifying me tonight

Dear @Bunniekins and all her lovely supporters..

just read this..

It is the hardest thing in the world for a parent to make a decision for ambulance accompanied by police to take child due to risk of danger....they can restrain patient to bed for safety..

You have been through this and yes said to son at that time would not do again..

look at it as that decision was made around the circumstances at that time..

these are different circumstances. Now..a progression of instances in a short period of time..

he will not understand due to his delusions...this decision is also for his own safety...he would never forgive himself if he hurt you..

you are being his mum and making the call..your real son behind the delusions ..still there ...is terrified..

I have been down this road and nothing I can say to you will make it better..

the one thing that I held onto was my boy is scared to death..he needs his mum

,much love to you Greenpea xx

Re: my son is terrifying me tonight

You are so right @Sophia1

That scared and angry boy is still the much loved son and he needs his mum - so @Bunniekins - you have to be that Tough Love Mum - and this is so hard

Thanks Sophia - you said that really well

Green Pea - I will see if I can find a Tough Love Link - I haven't done that before so wish me well

Re: my son is terrifying me tonight

Okay @Bunniekins

There are a lot of Tough Love sites - if you just type Tough Love into your browser you can look through and see what applies to you

It will also put you onto parenting groups - I was in one myself with my son's father - actually for once in his life my ex-h got involved

It is tough though - tough love - we all need to be prepared for that

Sending a lot of love for you - it will be tough for you - whatever you do

Re: my son is terrifying me tonight

Thanks for that @Sophia1 - that is very helpful for many people - I know about @Bunniekins but there are many people who read these forums without registering - it is easy to see how many threads are accessed

It would have helped me in the past but that time was a long time ago - this time 32 years ago my son was in Juvenile Detention and died there that July - my first thought was that it was all over but of course it was not - but his troubled life was and he is at peace

When I first joined a Tough Love Group we were warned that some of these troubled and addicted young people die and we had been members for 7 months when our son did - and until the end of my own life I will be grateful for the information and support and indeed love we received from parents like ourselves who were struggling with a person we loved so much at odds with the world he had to leave early

But thanks for giving me the chance to say this - it's the main reason I joined Sane Forums over 2 years now - each winter I run into a bad time - and it lasts until it runs out -

There are many people with similar stories - I pray there can be a solution a little less painful - if only
