BPD: How often does your mood drop?

BPD: How often does your mood drop?

Hi fellow BPD peeps, I was just wondering how often you find your moods dip/rise? I seem to have severely low moods lasting up to a week and then climbing steadily up for a week, only to drop back down dramatically again... I'm in the middle of some pretty heavy DBT and a lot of pressure at home, but weekly/bi-weekly low moods just doesn't seem to be manageable to me...? I'm on mood stabilizer and antidepressant, surely I can expect a better amount of good moods over low moods, yeah? What are your experiences? Thank you for sharing 🙂

It depends on what is happening in my life but it can be multiple times a day to multiple times a week to stable for some time...

I am on an antidepressant and I think that generally helps a lot, however, with lots of uncertainty and big changes in my life I am finding in cycling quicker in moods than what I had been.

I would like to think you should be having more good moods with your medication but it is hard to say and I believe a few other factors come into it. Have you been on the meds for long? I had to try a few before I found one that worked appropriately.

Can I ask how do you find the DBT? It's something I would like to explore further but am hampered by cost at the moment.

Hi, I'm not clear on moods just yet, I need to do more reading, but my moods can change every ten mins most days, I just don't show them, it's normally went I'm socializing, I also find I have small emotion outburst a week before my periods,, I don't know nothing about mood stabilizers,, maybe I should try them..

Thanks for your reply @Billamba I am finding DBT VERY useful. I am in my 5th week of personalized DBT at an adult prevention and recovery centre (following a hospital admission due to an OD) and while I think it might be the actual support from the amazing workers here that's keeping me together, I can relate to (and process) all of the work they are giving me. It's really only an introduction to the key concepts here, and then my psychologist will continue the work with me over time once I am discharged. I highly recommend looking into any kind of BASIC DBT concepts or introduction while researching to see if there are any affordable community based courses in your area 🙂

Rises and depressions are why they used to call us manic-depression. in technical sense I can't tell you much, but I know for sure it is a genetic disease. Given that, my parents gave birth to a bi-polar person. That means I have had it my whole life, whether diagnosed or not. I try to trace memories for symtoms in my undiagnosed state.

I have never have advance warning. A lot of times I go in a store nornal as everybody, then I get in the car and cry. No predictions for me. I have become more effective at controling my behavior, by staying aware of my symptoms!

In my experience, there is no way to predict it. If you are cycling that fast you need to see someone soon. Buy don't just try some....use the wrong meds and weird shit starts to happen.

The medicine you need is not a pop one every now and then kind of things. Most of the psych meds take about 6 weeks after you start Gotta be patient, and that is hard for me to do. If not for the support I get from my wife I would likely be living in the street.

Think more about how control to it...it will never go away.
