Psych, School Reports, invasion privacy

Psych, School Reports, invasion privacy

I've been seeing a psychologist in conjunction with my mum to try and sort out some issues in our relationship mainly stemming from her not believing me when I told her about my cousins physically assaulting me. At my last appointment with the psych, she informed me she had already asked my mother for my school reports to see if anything shows up in them. When she told me this I started to panic and cry, I was 6 or younger when the abuse started, what is likely to show up in my reports? If nothing shows up, is she and my mum going to think I'm lying? I feel like I should have been asked before my mother, these are my reports about me.
Psych told me she didn't tell my mum why she wanted the reports, but my mum isn't an idiot, she will look over them, she will make her own judgements, if nothing shows up it will give more credence to mums theory that I'm lying.

Feel for you @FringeDweller

A lot of issues in my family started from an abusive older cousin ... hmmm.... too late to do any thing about that for us.

I HOPE your situation is treated a bit better.

That sounds like a really distressing experience @FringeDweller I imagine it's left you feeling out of control and as though a boundary has been crossed all over again.

That fear of not being beieved is unfortunately all too common. You did so well to disclose your experience and to make the decision to seek suppot too. Not at all easy to do.

Sometimes, counsellors and psychologists, being human, can make mistakes. It can feel so hard to do, but one of the best ways to manage situations like this is to let your psychologist know how you're feeling about the situation and the impact it's had on you. It's so important that you're able to feel heard and understood around this stuff and hopefully with a bit more understanding, your psychologist will be more mindful to include you more in any decisions made about your treatment going forward.
