Can't sleep

Can't sleep

Hi everyone

Hope everyone is doing ok and pushing through there MI.
Just a quick one has anyone had troubles with sleeping?
Since my diagnosis over a week ago I have not had one decent night sleep. I'm always waking up at 3 am to take a sleeping tablet to go back to sleep.
I had enough one night and took two sleeping tablets before bed and that gave me a solid 8 Hts sleep.

I have taken 2 tablets now and am just laying here waiting to fall asleep. I haven't had racing thoughts that keep me up I'm just not tired and that worries me.

Having an appointment with my psychiatrist tomorrow to discuss my diagnosis further and why I can't sleep.

It could be because I'm not working at the moment due to injury but worried that it's not.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated
Kind regards

Re: Can't sleep

@Pitz Hi Pitz this works for me (in the Autumn and Winter that is). Putting a blanket on top of the mattress. Having a nice warm hot water bottle and being snuggled up with warm clothes but with the window slightly open to let in a slight breeze. Going to bed at the same time every night is really important. Routine routine. I sometimes need sleeping tablets (more so in the Summer) but since my medication has been sorted it is easier to sleep and talking about it with your psychiatriast is a good thing. I hope my lil idea help you getting some shut eye tonight 🙂

Thanks @Bunniekins I ended up sleeping for a few hours 🙂
I'm always so hot when I sleep so not a fan of the hot water bottle but I'll share that idea onto my wife as he is always freezing 🙂

Re: Can't sleep

Hi @Shaz51

I normally go to bed at 10pm and wake up at 4am for work so usually take my meds about 930pm.

Since I'm out of work I have not had routine and have not exercised.

My psychiatrist appointment went well I guess, I took my mum in as she thinks bipolar is caused by a bacteria.

She got a better understanding and so did I. I have type 1 bipolar.

May I ask if it's not too personal don't have to answer but what type of bipolar does your husband have and any pointers from a wife's point of view.

Kind regards
