Re: Just need to talk

Ive seen a psychologist before and that helped it was still there but not this severe
I know that’s what I need to do is go back and speak with her I just hate getting upset talking about it plus what if there is something wrong and they just brush it off as anxiety? Happened to me before when I had leginares disease this is why I think I hate talking to the doctors
I’m messed up I know 😥

Re: Just need to talk

Hi @Jaz5 nice to 'meet' you.

I've read your story and wonder if it would be useful to you to write/ type out what you want to get out of your head so you have more of an idea of all the details. It might become an epic length, but that would be good, as it would be getting it out where you can better catch hold of the details.

Working it into a time line perhaps, depending on what's gong on for you. (Not asking for details here, just offering ways of sorting the many things you have on your mind).

it might give you a way to be more specific in what you want to discuss with your gp if you decide to talk to them about it, or it might help reduce the mental anguish because you don't have to keep the lid on everything any more.

Just a couple of ideas that came to mind. I hope your day has had some pleasantness for you.

Re: Just need to talk

Hey jaz I don't think your messed up.

I've had it going all down through my the side of my neck down into my chest, i promise you it gets better.

Yours seems really bad at the moment and maybe talking to a psychiatrist is your best bet this time...

I found that exercising and eating healthy fixed most of my issues.

Have you looked into meditation? try sitting down for 5 minutes with your eyes closed and just focus on breathing... if you find your mind wandering go back to focus on breathing. It really helps with anxiety.

Re: Just need to talk

Thank you all so much even getting this off my chest has helped I will try all the suggestions I won’t turn anything down. I will try writing a time line and go from there 😊 also I have just starting eating healthier food plus I do exercise and yes that helps I play league tag so I find training and playing really helps but those days I don’t train I get all these symptoms but I do have to force myself to train but feel much better for it
Thanks again for everyone’s help and letting me get things off my chest 👍

Re: Just need to talk

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I just wanted to reach out to others who are dealing with anxiety, depression & attempted suicide. During the last 4 weeks I've taken an attempt on my own life. Been admitted to hospital for observation for a period of 7days (public system). Discharged to return home without follow up support other than a random call from the mental health crisis team every 3-4days which only lasted 2 calls. I have no family support and only 2 close friends near by but feel like I've fallen through the cracks of a system that doesn't care.

I have a GP who's professional expertise reaches no further than prescribing medication. However did forward a mental healthcare plan to a psychiatrist waiting over 3 weeks now to get an appointment to no prevail.

My passing day's are uneventful waking early with nausea sometimes with headaches. Forcing myself to eat something due to medication must be taken with food once daily. My mind never seems to shut down running almost 24/7 worrying about life's pressures. My anxiety & depression is driven by past poor life choices in most areas if not all. Wondering how I'm going to survive another day let alone a week, month or year.

I have no selfesteam or enthusiasm to do anything daily. Each day passes by sitting around watching movies, reading a book doing the odd puzzle but usually loosing interest within 1/2hr. Rarely venturing out as have no reason to leave choosing to hide away from prying eyes as to proud or ashamed of where I've ended up.

I'm in my 40's a divorced father of two. I'm just over 6' tall generally quite thick set around 115kgs but have lost a considerable amount due to my condition of late. I was always one to take pride in my appearance & outlook but now I don't seem to care about anything. I feel completely alone most of the time quietly screaming out for help from afar but no one hears my pain.

I find myself now unemployed with no financial stability or savings fighting to retain a normal life but loosing the battle fast. The usual bills keep pouring in Rent, Utilities, Phone, Child Support, Registrations, Insurances & so on. I keep fighting every day but can't stop thinking If only I had passed away three weeks ago all this pain would be gone. I ask myself what is the "value" of life & who around us really cares in our hour of need it seems quite simple "0" no one.

My love to all experiencing similar circumstances. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Re: Just need to talk

Hi Fox 3.

I am also new to this forum. I feel your pain. Some years ago I attempted suicide and know how small the world feels at that moment. I am glad that you are reaching out for connection. I spent some time in hospital (private) last year and was also surprised at the lack of follow up support. I also know what its like to feel alone. But there are people who care and i hope you continue to reach out. When i was stuggling to get a prompt appointment with a psychiatrist I contacted the mental health team at the public hospital and made an an appointment to see a mental health nurse. I know that the public system is over taxed and I'm not sure how it really works with follow up but I did find them helpful. i hope you get an appointment with the psychiatrist soon. Seeing mine has certainly helped me.

It is awful to feel alone and not wanting to venture out, isn't it. I has also hidden away for periods of time, and that has only exaccerbated my feelings of loneliness and despair. I have to force myself out of the house at times but unless I do, it doesn't get better.

I have neglected myself in many ways, and it is only in recent weeks, feeling i had hit rock bottom that i have been able to do small things to feel better. Eating well has really made a difference for me - cutting out all sugar, dairy etc and getting as much fruit and veg as I can. That has helped me to lift the fog a bit.

Something else that has helped me a little recently has been to watch a couple of talks by Johann Hari on his book called Lost Connections on youtube. He travelled the world for a few years talking to people about the causes of and ways through depression. It's given me some hope on ways i might be able to get through this and little things i can do.

I know how gripping depression can be and it still grips me.

Please continue to reach out and know in doing so there are many people here who do understand and do care.

Re: Just need to talk

Hi @Jaz5, so sorry you are struggling so hard with anxiety and concern over your health. It is so hard being squirreled up in anxiety and so hard to see a way out. Sometimes we need to make a map.

Just sharing my experience, strenght and hope here... In Nov 2013 I sat down and wrote 2 x A4 pages of all the phyisical and mental issues I was struggling with and went to my doctor with it.

I had pretended up to then that I was 'fine' just a bit depressed on and off. I always hid my mental illnesses as best I could frightened that if I got "in the clutches of a psychuiatrist" (I was a tad paranoid) that I would be pathologised and erased by the system. Instead - my doctor, bless her, sat down and drew a body map of me with all my various issues - and we tackled them one by one. I ended up having surgery, i ended up having my MI's and comorbities being diagnosed properly and new medications eventually found after many trials. I learned that some of my issues I really cannot do anything about and I had to learn to live with them.

So, I wonder if you took a step back a bit, and calmly thought about all the issues that impact on your life -
bio, psycho, social - and ordered them onto a page - then you would have some control and a spring board to discuss with your doctor. And take it from there.

Re: Just need to talk

@Borobi and @Fox3- I'm so sorry no one has responded to your post and made you feel welcome. I saw your posts last night, but I couldn't respond as I was to tired. Someone usually notices the new members, so again I'm sorry. Especially as you were both in dark places.

If you want to let another member know that you are talking to them, just put an @ in front of their user name.

I understand where you were both at, as I have made many attempts on my live in the last three years. But it's now almost 6months since my last serious attempt. I still self harm from time to time; trying to get a handle on that eventually as well.

I'm sorry @Fox3 that you've found it hard to get professional support. But I urge to keep trying, as it can make a world of difference. Do you have a local community mental health team? See if there is a national support service online in your area and give them a call. See if they have any ideas of support networks or services that can give you information on. Call the crisis team again, and again, until they understand that your really struggling and need to be linked in for support. I fell through the cracks with my crisis service several times too. You deserve to live as much as anyone else, because you are as important as others and your life matters.

There are good crisis supports on the phone or online like the Help Service through this forum, Suicide Call Back Service, Lifeline.

Is there a Men's Shed in your area? That can ease the isolation and help you connect with the world again. It's a horrible cycle isolation, because your depression feeds it, it makes you feel bad, you isolate more, and being you know it, you have barely stepped out your home in months. See if can get out for just a small walk every few days. Like just 15mins to start with.

Depression is the pits, literally. It pulls you into a dark hole, and feeds you BS to pull you further, until you feel life is sucked out of you.

Please try not to be ashamed of where you are at. You didn't choose depression and anxiety, it just picked you. There's help available to pay with bills, and many companies will accept payment plans. There are services like the Salvation Army , Anglicare or similar that can give you financial counselling to help you get those bills sorted. You can take up to 10,000 out of you your superannuation a year for financial hardship. There's lots of options, but sometimes you have to look. A social worker is usually attached to the local community mental health services and can help heaps with negotiations with utility providers.

Please know this @Fox3. People do care. I care. Otherwise I wouldn't come back and take the time to try and help. And you care, because you're reaching out for help. My advice might be mostly practical, but staying on top of everyday life with depression is really hard. So being to take care of everything else can make a little difference.

When you go back to your GP, see if they can also refer you to a counsellor or psychologist. The psychiatrist sorts your medications while pyschology helps to talk bout what's going on.

And if you want to start a thread to hang out on, share your ups and downs, just go back to the home page. There you will see lots of headings and sub headings. Probably Somethings Not Right might be a place to start. When you click on the link it will take to a page with lots of thread headings. Up the top there should be a Start a New Discussion link, which if you click on, you can make a start.

I've no objection to either of you tagging me for help at all, but I know there's a number of male members here a well. Like @TAB @MDT @Ant7.

Much of what I've said goes for you too @Fox3. But it sounds like you're on your way which is good. Reaching out here is a great place. Its safe, anonymous, you can be honest and vulnerable. There's many here, and I'm sure you'll find people that'll connect with you and be helpful. Take a look around the forums and jump in on a conversation with someone. Or start your own thread. I wish only the best for both of you.

Re: Just need to talk

@Borobi @Fox3

Good day to you both. Sorry to hear you are going through these times. I am a young male and I have been dealing with what you've describing there for about six years now. It's easily the toughest thing.

Perceptions of what a man 'is' are seemingly impossible to nail. I think this is because they are always changing. Especially in this day and age. One minute you have to be 'xyz' then the next you have to be 'abc'.

I dunno if I can relate much to your personal circumstances but I guess that's what the forums are for.

Use the @ symbol to call other members onto your threads so they see your notices. If you do that then people can reply to what you said.

I think if you jump online like @Sans911 suggested then you will probably find a lot more help than what you'd get in person. Such is the nature of the internet.

I do hope you find solace soon. I have been in hospital before and it wasn't fun. However I knew it was the place I had to be at that time and that it served what purpose it had to. You are both here and that's good progress.

Please keep me updated on what you are going through.
