seeing flashing lights at night

seeing flashing lights at night

Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone had experienced seeing flashes of light in the dark. I have noticed on the odd occasion that I will see what seems to be a flash from a camera when I turn out the light in the corner of my eye... I have googled it with not much luck and have recently been to the eye doctor for my usual checkup so it is not that.

I was wonderfing if it is a sign of my mi? Will ask my pdoc if I think of it at my next appointment.

Re: seeing flashing lights at night

I have what looks like distant lightning when I am looking around in the dark @Bunniekins. Not sure if it is the same thing. I've had it my whole adult life (started about 17). Not sure what the cause is, whether it is indeed the MI manifesting or something else. I'd be interested in what the doctor says. I've never sought help for it because I figure it doesn't bother me too much and I know it isn't real.

@Queenie That is interesting. For me it is like a flash of white if I was psychotic I would think there was a camera somewhere in my room lol. I will write a note in my phone to ask her and pass it onto you. Like you it is more curiousity (at the moment anyway) than being worried because it is so rare and brief. Thanks Queenie xx

No worries @Bunniekins.

I too Googled what flashes of light could be. Some of them sound serious (including blindness). I'm figuring it can't be anything like that for me if I still have perfect eyesight decades after it first occurring. I am fairly sure it is attributable to something simple like a side effect of medications or just part of the MI itself.

@Queenie Funny you should say that but I got some info when I googled and it looks like yes it is the mi and is schizo ... as you said the blindness doesnt seem to attribute to either of us thank god. Oops better go father brown awaits!

From my understanding it possibly could also be migraine-related (even without headache).

Good luck with it.

@Bunniekins @Queenie @TheVorticon ...i too have light flashes..my gp sent me to eye hospital but my eyes are ok ... i was then told it could be migraine related as i have migraine syndrome ...my phsyc said its a possibility of it being MI related as a reaction to my meds trying to stabilise my brain...so im not too sure what to think...i would love to hear if anyone finds out for sure what it is ... best wishes to everyone

Re: seeing flashing lights at night

@Bunniekins I get light flashes in both the night and day times - related to migraine syndrome.

I experience blinding migraine pain.

The light flashes are a warning sign for me, as can odd and usually unpleasant odours be, of upcoming migraines.

I can often head them off if I, 1 don't dismess the flashes, and 2. rest or keep my muscle tension under control and manage stress levels. It's all a rich tapestry of effects intertwined with each other, but at least now i know the light flashes are a warning, I have less debilitation from the migraines.

And never, ever, ever look straight into a bright light, or outside into the sunlight. Never sit for long periods facing a window to outside light. Yeah, light affected migraines suck!

And, you can have migraines without the pain too. All the other weird symptoms, but without the pain. Happened to me last year. Bodies are so weird!

Follow the thread I'm about to create, but sometimes these flashes are real and not imagined, I have the proof!
