Another year done, so what's next?

Another year done, so what's next?

I'm not one for New Year's resolution, but when the year ends I do like to take a moment to pause to reflect over the past year, and to think about what my hopes are for the next year.

For me, this achievement this year was being able to do yoga consistently for one year. I started it, hoping that I would learn a bit about discipline, and one year later, I'm pleased to say that, thanks to an amazing teacher, I've learned about devotion, and practice several times a week.

In 2016, I'm hoping to continue with yoga, and applying it's lesson to everyday life - being calm in the face of adversity, laughing at myself, and being kind to myself and others.

What about you? What are your highlights and achievements of 2015 and their hopes for 2016?

Thanks for the encouraging story. I did half a degree in fine arts but I can't get credit for it as it was more than 10 years ago. I'm 39 and itis my goal to finish the course. I can't count the number of times that I enrolled in a course and failed to finish.

Dearest @Former-Member

Yes, I certainly know how you feel in regards to catching up with old friends. About two months ago......I found a whiteboard on the 'bring out your dead........perfect condition....I got my friend Paul to come over and he drilled holes in the wall to put on the kitchen wall......one side is a list of friends to write cards to. Every week, I write cards to people......old friends........you can get one dollar cards that look cute as......

Just an idea because getting a card slow mail is not done that much...........

Very wise words @MoonGal. I wish you the same. You're absolutely right. We can set a course for ourselves but need to accept that there will be lots of aspects of the journey beyond our control.

A calm mind, kind heart and gentle hands. I really like that. Thank you.

That's a lovely idea @PeppiPatty. I've been reminded of snail mail lately as I've done quite a bit of cleaning out and came across a box of letters from friends going back to my teenage years. It made me reflect on how little written correspondence my daughter will ever receive. It'll all be texts and facetime chats. Nothing inherently wrong with that but it was lovely to look back over all the people who have been important to me over the years. I scanned some of them and sent them back to my friends so they could have a giggle at their former selves!

I need a lot of help. On the 27th I have to present a portfolio.

Present a portfolio of what to whom (broadly speaking, considering confidentiality issues)?

For tafe. I completed half a bachelor degree in fine art and half a bachelor degree in chemistry. Because it has been 15years since I last studied I can't get any credit. So I have decided to start at the beginning again and get my diploma.

Wow. Don't stress too much. You only have to please God and yourself. I've dropped out of HEAPS of courses but have managed to get an EXCELLENT informal education online and at the library and as i just mentioned at another forum, am now multi-awarded in my field (not that it leads to jobs anymore - i don't bother trying to get them anymore, due to discrimination). Are you undertaking study for fun? - Perhaps that is the only reason you should study, given the overall position of people with mental illnesses, physically, emotionally and legally.
