Something’s not right

Surgery.

Surgery.

Hi everyone, I'm going in for surgery next Monday. I've got cysts on one of my ovaries and in my uterus, along with polyps anx fibroids. The specialist is going to clean me out and add a hormonal IUD...apparently it thins the lining of the uterus so they won't reoccur. If it doesn't work, I will have to go in for a full hysterectomy. So, at 54, I finished my very last period. It's a mixed emotion. I'm glad it might help with the pain I've been getting, glad to not have periods anymore but, also, I feel regretful for not having my own children and for all the mistakes I have made in life. I guess, I am also suddenly feeling old, like life is behind me. I spent my whole life putting me last; a nun would have had more of a life than I did, and now, it's suddenly too late. I'm trying to not think too much about it, cause it's already a difficult time. I'm going to get through the surgery and then I am going to get healthy and go back to uni next session...oh yeah, I withdrew from uni this session, I needed to deal with all of this.

Re: Surgery.

Hi Lemonjuice I had a hysterectomy in my 40s and I have to say it was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I had endo which was all over my cervix (so they took that out = no more evil pap smears), the endo was going strange so they took out my uterus ( = no more periods!!!!). I have more energy since the hysterectomy.

Don't worry my friend you are not old and yes having time after the operation to get your health back is a very good idea although I can almost guarantee you you will have a new spring in your step and be a whole new Lemonjuice 🙂

Re: Surgery.

@Bunniekins I hope so. I'm hoping that the progesterone that they put will also help with my suicidal feelings that seem to come along just before mid-month. That's where I am now; it started last night, it's only light at the moment, but there have been times where I nearly ended it.

@Lemonjuice I thought I was dying before I had the surgary and afterwards felt like a brand new pea. Let us know how it all goes but I am pretty positive it will solve alot of your problems 🙂

Re: Surgery.

Facing a big surgery would be difficult.I hope you have a great medical team and wish you the best with it.

I have been very lucky and not had to face something like that. I kept saying My life will start at 55, but I am past that, so now its 60. In the meantime there have been some very good moments, which help balance out the dark times.

Take care

Re: Surgery.

I'm alive, missing an ovary cause the cyst was still there but alive. Oddly, I feel really down which I haven't felt before in other surgeries. I think they gave me a double dose of something.
