I feel I may be suffering from Bipolar or BPD please help

I feel I may be suffering from Bipolar or BPD please help

I feel like I have been suffering with symptoms of something other then anxiety or depression for a long time but just never get a diagnosis. It’s always just talking through things or teaching me how to get through things in therapy. I would actually like to know why I am having all of the symptoms I am having and what is it. Does anyone else feel this?

Hi @Littletink_

Sounds like it might be a good idea to bring this up with your therapist and your reasons because i can hear that its something that could help you with understanding maybe. I've heard that for others here having a diagnosis that ticked more of the boxes of what they were experiencing gave them a sense of relief in many ways and wonder if this might be similar for you too. I think often, we do know ourselves fairly well and if you feel tat its more than anxiety and depression then you may be right.

For me though, i found getting the 'big' diagnoses really difficult and overwhelming. i felt that i was suddenly treated as the labels by some and there was definitely a lot of stigma attached that still worries me. I prefer sometimes to just focus on the 'symptoms' or most challenging difficulties i have at a time and try to 'do' something about them and always hoped that my therapist had the bigger picture in her mind (not sure that makes sense)... but for me it kind of worked.

Take care

Hi @Former-Member thank you for your reply. It is frustrating because I already know that I have depression and anxiety but am unsure about everything else I am experiencing. Yes that is exactly how I feel. I would like a diagnosis that ticks more of the boxes of what I am experiencing. No that makes total sense and is definitely a helpful tip. I don’t see my psychologist until next month so I will be sure to bring it up with her. I think the thing that is bothering me most at the moment is my unstable sense of self and having unstable interests that are all over the place.

Re: I feel I may be suffering from Bipolar or BPD please help

Hi @Littletink_

I find that a diagnosis is the trickiest part and discuss that openly with my psychiatrist. I have C-PTSD, depression and anxiety, but we’ve also discussed the possibility of bipolar, ASD. Discussing my experiences openly with my psychiatrist has helped me exclude a few things I read up on the internet and was worried about. Whatever the correct label, for me more important is that I am making progress in therapy and with the help of my meds.

Are you seeing a psychiatrist?

Hi @Former-Member

Yeah I agree diagnosis’ can be very tricky. Though I feel like I have been suffering for such a long time.

Yes, that is important for me as well. I haven’t really made much progress at all as I have had a lot going on with my partner and have spent most sessions dealing with that. I am just starting schema therapy but am not sure I completely understand it yet. No I’m not seeing a psychiatrist. Unfortunately they are hard to come by in this area. I am going to try and bring up with my psychologist again that I feel there is something more going on.

Hi @Littletink_

I think it’s good if you discuss your conerns with your psychologist and I’m sorry to hear you have a lot going on with your partner, that must be extra hard.

I’ve just started schema therapy myself and like you, not really sure what it’s all about, but I trust my therapist, I’m sure I’ll find out with time.

Take care.
