Battling MI whilst caring for someone with MI

Battling MI whilst caring for someone with MI

Struggling atm. Just want to chat, distract my mind. Mum has depression, recently discharged from mental health clinic. I can see she's not well but she internalises. We are usually so close but she just wants to be on her own, doesn't want to engage in much conversation. Perhaps I'm feeling sorry for myself as I miss our relationship. I can see that my depression and anxiety is increasing, which is making it harder to cope. Feeling alone tonight.

Hey @Shaz51 ... thanks for checking in.

im okay today, had a decent nights sleep last night (finally lol) and managed to go for a walk this morning. mum was transferred to a mental health facility on tuesday. she was meant to go on monday but the poor luv had to have an iron infusion because her iron was very low. i feel more relaxed where she is now as it is a mental health clinic especially for older people.

how have you and mr shaz been?

xx

@utopia

Hey sweets, aaah there’s your message! Hehe … I was thinking you may have typed something you shouldn’t have 😛

That’s a bugger about the boys not showing up for training but only go to the game … training is very important. Aaah I remember my netball days – I miss playing netball.

I just googled the black pigs you were telling me about and laughed out loud! They are so cute with their big floppy ears covering half their face lol! Too cute!

Yep, home of peace is the same as a nursing home luv. actually when I went to see mum yesterday the nurse said mum wanted to ring me the night before cause she felt bad about the things she said to me while I was there (when she wasn’t well). poor luv. I saw her again today. She was teary when I got there but another patient was sitting with mum and holding her hand consoling her. it really was so beautiful to see. I stayed with her for a little bit and she slowly picked up. She sent me out to get her a clock … oh and has given me another shopping list lol! The nurses were calling her a diva and a princess haha … in a good way though! So yeah, I’ll be going back to the shops tomorrow. It’s all good though, as long as she improves. And she was a lot more like herself today, ie her personality which made it much more relaxing for me to be with her.

Im so glad you found a great psychiatrist, you need to be comfortable with them and trust them. I do like mum’s psychiatrist – she is female and she has a registrar trainee psych who works under her. I am really happy with both of them. i am more at ease knowing mum is where she is – it is a mental health facility that specialises in older adults. And the nurses are absolutely lovely. I can actually relax knowing mum is there.

As for the relaxation massage … my friend and I bought a voucher thing off groupon for my birthday , just haven’t had a chance to use it yet. Am going to book it for next weekend though!

Haha … no wonder your son spent so much at the shops – poor bugger had nothing to cook with utopia! Lol … yes, next week will be much cheaper now that he has the ingredients. So …. How was the dinner? Could he be the next masterchef???

Ooh, what is the fasting blood test for? Is it a routine blood test? have your bp results been relatively stable? Sorry to hear that it hasn’t settled even with the bp meds ☹ I wonder why your doc wont just put you on the meds you were on before? Get onto her about it! hehe … wow, your resting pulse rate is quite high, isn’t it? is it when you are feeling anxious? Also, come to think of it, when a person is at the doctor’s their bp can tend to go up, perhaps from anxiety or just knowing their bp is being taken. They call it ‘white collar syndrome’ I think. Mum’s bp is all over the place. I monitor it at home for her. mine is low, systolic normally sits around 100 (but for me that is normal). But yeah, definitely find out why she took you off the other meds. I understand if you had adverse side effects from them but if not, and they were working, I don’t know why she took them off you.

How has your day been? Have you been up to much? I did some washing this afternoon and have literally just been lazing about the past few hours – even had my dinner in bed. My body needed it.

xx

Re: Battling MI whilst caring for someone with MI

The large black pigs are gorgeous but HUGE!!! @Bella1978. Would need it's own 3 seater couch all to itself. Lol.
My new gp thinks it could be white collar syndrome or whatever you called it. But I know it's not. Yesterday 170/110 with resting pulse at70. When I was on the old bp meds my bp dropped into the low 130's or high 120's. Even when it was ttaken at the doctors. And when I get my bp taken I sit and do some relaxation breathing before they start. Just to make sure I am as calm as can be. Have an appointment next week with her.
So glad your mum is back to her old self. And being with people her age who will sit and hold her hand - sounds like a beautiful supportive environment. I found the same in the private hospital I normally go to. Mental health patients are very supportive of others. Probably more so than the general public.
Lol. I can't believe she has written you another shopping list. Make sure you stop at a $2 shop and buy her a Tiara. All Divas & princesses wear them. Oh, & she can wear it while she watches the royal wedding on Saturday. Cool.
Nice when the nurses joke with her and she has 2 nicknames. Very cute. It does sound like a great hospital.
My boy cooked - bugger - can't remember what it's called - but rice when you cook it slowly In stock or wine - stirring constantly. The rice was too sticky / clumpy - but the flavour was deliscious. Normally he only cooks spaghetti. He's been making it since he was 4. Only now he doesn't need my help.
Can't believe I thought of the massage and you already had a voucher. Did you tell me that before and I've just forgotten? Or am I becoming psychic (not psychotic). Bad MI joke.Lol.
Just found out a friend of mine - I used to date her brother - lost her baby yesterday. She was 38 weeks pregnant. And was booked in for a cesarean in a week. She woke up Tuesday morning with a very puffy face - so her hubby took her to the hospital. They did a scan and announced that the baby was dead. Then she had the cesarean and hugged her beautiful baby boy for a few hours. So truly devastating. No explanation for why it happened. The pregnancy was healthy all through. All the doctors said is that the baby died some time from Friday afternoon (she'd seen the doctor that morning) & Tuesday. And they don't know why it happened. Just such a waste. This was one baby that was loved so much even in the womb.
Anyway - that's enough sad news.
Am joining a Saturday walking group. It's 5 km. You can run or walk. Obviously I'm walking. They email you your time. So the aim is over the months you improve your time. Only problem - it's at 8am. Yuk. I'm really not a morning person. Lol
Be sure to give your mum my love when you see her tomorrow - after you've done her personal shopping. Oh that could be a fun job. Being a personal shopper for rich people.
Hugs for you. Glad you had a good sleep last night.

@utopia

Those black pigs are cute – I can see why you like them so much!

Wow, 170 is high luv. 120’s to 130’s is much better. Good that you get yourself calm before they take your bp. This will freak you out – when mum was in the catatonic state and she went to hospital – her bp was 260!!! Can’t remember the diastolic but the systolic was crazy high! Remember to let me know how you go at your gp appt next Tuesday.

Its funny you know, mum is in a public hospital and she is getting more specialised treatment and (I believe) better care than she was getting at the private clinic. I guess because it is solely for older people. there are only 8 people in the ward mum is in and I always see between 2 and 3 nurses there which is awesome. I really want to see if I can get her to participate in community things, like day care centres where she can spend the day and socialise with others, do activities, etc. just to get her out of the house and spend time with others. Baby steps !

She cracks me up with her shopping lists, it’s all clothes! And shoes hehe! As she is herself again she is very appreciative of what I am doing for her.

Even though the rice didn’t look too good, the main thing is that it tasted yummy! Well done on your boy cooking. I love rice! Actually, I like most foods 😉

I think you may be psychic utopia as I didn’t mention the voucher to you before … that is pretty funny you mentioned it. my friend also suggested we do the rspca million paws walk this weekend, so we’ll do that on Sunday. Neither of us have a doggy but I think you can walk one of the shelter dogs. I’ll look into it. I used to do them years ago when I had a dog but has been a long time since I have done one of them.

Oh wow, that is devastating for your friend. I am so sorry to hear she lost her baby. That would have been so hard on her and her husband. And the fact that she was still carrying the baby not knowing it had passed. And they don’t know how it happened?? Life just isn’t fair you know. Was it her first pregnancy? I cant imagine what they are going through ☹

Ooh, well done on the walking group! Yes, walking is much safer hehe. How did you find out about the walking group? Haha, 8am is nice and early for ya isn’t it? 😉 make sure you go though, as you know you will feel good after you do! Im slowly getting back into my walks. I went yesterday and this morning. I actually got up at 7.30 today – was very proud 😊

Haha, personal shopper for the rich … wish mum was rich – then she could pay me – just joking!

Will pass on your love to mum. I had dinner at 5 oclock, now im getting hungry. Want to be healthy though … ooh could have some tinned peach, that be nice

All righty luv, ooh hows your mama been this week?

I hope you get a good nights rest xxxx

Re: Battling MI whilst caring for someone with MI

The million paws walk sounds like a great way to spend some time on Sunday @Bella1978.
My best friend just sent me a message saying her feet are too sore so she won't do the walk tomorrow. Hopefully she will join me the following week.
Yes I think because it's a geriatric mental health unit, the care is really targeted properly. And the staff most likely choose to work on that ward. So they have a passion for it.
Is your mum Emelda Marcos with her shoe collection? Lol. Good on her for treating herself. And how lucky is she to have you as her carer.
Have to clean up the house a bit today. Looking a real shambles. So I'll get on to that in a minute.
Hope you have an enjoyable day.
