Sounds of Silence

Sounds of Silence

Hi Anyone, Everyone, Someone,

I thought i'd start this thread for those of us that don't have a great deal of interaction during the day. Sort of like a lonely hearts club. Having a mental health disorder can be so isolating and even with family around, if they have not struggled with mental health issues it can be difficult for them to understand your journey.

Today I felt really distant from myself, sometimes when I am overwhelmed I can become very sleepy and struggle to function properly. It can be days without a shower or brushing my teeth and just sleep, sleep, sleep. Maybe if anyone is out there I can chat to you so I don't feel so weird and alone in my own darn head.

Hit me up if you're around.

Re: Sounds of Silence

@CherryValentine, I don't think we've met before, so hi.

Sorry it's taken so long for someone to answer your post.

I relate to what you say about getting sleepy, not showering, brushing teeth, just sleeping. I'm in a better place at the moment than I was several years ago, sleeping about 20 hours a day for nine months or so. But even now I still struggle with these things daily, just have more success overcoming those impulses to neglect myself.

You are not weird and not alone. I've talked to a number of people on the forum who have struggled or still struggle with these things.

Kind wishes, Maz.

Hi @CherryValentine!

Welcome to the SANE Forums! It's wonderful that you have created this thread to interact with others - especially, those who may be feeling lonely and isolated like you, due to their experiences with mental illness (trust me there are many others who feel like that here on the forums!). You are right in saying that although one may have family around, and they may mean well, they may not completely comprehend what is going on for someone struggling with mental illness.

In term of socially connecting with other like-minded people, it is worthwhile checking out the "Good morning" thread (it looks like you are already onto it! ). Lots of members have chats during the day on this thread, letting others know where they're at; whilst getting relevant support.

I hope this threads is helpful for you, and that you are able to get some helpful social connection with other forum members who are feeling lonely and isolated too.

Kindest,

Amour_Et_Psyché

Re: Sounds of Silence

Hi @Mazarita thanks for getting in touch. Thanks for reminding me I'm not alone. It can feel like it sometimes with little or no human interaction in a day. I am trying to get a job so I have something to look forward to and have plenty of interaction with. I'm glad you don't neglect yourself so much now, self care is so important. This weekend I will have lots of family around so I won't feel so lonely.

Re: Sounds of Silence

Thanks so much @Amour_Et_Psyche it certainly is helpful knowing there are others out there who feel as isolated as I do. Today I walked through a shopping center and wondered if anyone around me felt as strange as I do. Glad to come home to this forum with people who get it.
