Missing my therapist.

Missing my therapist.

I know I am suppose to be grown up but I am missing my therapist. Saw him last Thursday and not seeing him for two weeks. Once a week is hard enough but there are a few times I don't see him for a couple of weeks because of his other commitments. I accept it cause he is volunteering his time to see me. Last session was a tough one though and it feels like I left things unsaid and some things said badly...that I wasn't being fair to him. It sucks waiting for a whole two weeks just for that 50 minutes to fix it. I don't want to do this anymore. I'm sick of therapists, becoming dependent on them...it's almost as bad as the traumas I have experienced. I wish I could move to an island where there are no people. No relationships. No hurts.

Hi @Lemonjuice.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with the long breaks between therapy sessions. It is really common to become attached to a therapist - how can you not when you are sharing so much personal information with them and they are understanding and supportive? Perhaps support from people on these forums, who are more available to connect with will help you between sessions?

Re: Missing my therapist.

@Jupiter thanks. Yeah, I think I will be on here of and on for the next two weeks. I'm ok, got plenty to do, just every now and then I get wobbly about it. People here are pretty cool.

Re: Missing my therapist.

Hi @Lemonjuice,

I’m new here and I understand how you feel. My last therapist would take long holidays quite often and I have just started seeing a new therapist. Therapy is a daunting thing for me but I’m keeping at it because I know how important it is.

Sometimes it’s nice to know that you’re not alone in how you feel and you’re definitely not. Missing your therapist in between sessions is not abnormal and has nothing to do with how “grown up” you are. Don’t feel like you’re not strong because you miss them 🙂 Acknowledging it isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s the first step for you to let you help yourself. Keep doing what you’re doing!
