Advice of counsellors needed.

Advice of counsellors needed.

Need the advice of those who have are counsellors. I've been diagnosed with DID. I seldom let any alters out...we are co-conscious. I've been seeing my therapist for just over a year...good therapist. He has never asked or suggested that he meet the others but that if it happened, it happened. Thing is, I feel like we are talking shallow stuff now and I am feeling that he is letting it happen so that I get frustrated by my own behaviour and allow the others out...and it's fn working! it's getting hard for me to control them and it's exhausting trying to keep them from surfacing. It's become like a game of wills between him and me and between me and the others. He won't accept writing from the others...that is, he won't read their writing...I have to read it...not happening! It's come down to either I read their writing in counseling or let them out or treatment is really over...he hasn't said that, it's just the logical conclusion. I'm not even sure I can let them come out...we made a group decision years ago that I and a couple of others would stay on surface to deal with the world and everyone else would go quiet...underneath. It worked for several years until a couple of years ago...long story. I feel sad and guilty that I still don't trust my therapist enough to be willing to be a fool in front of him...cause, you know, this is not real and I'm just an idiot and deluded or infantile for creating these others. I feel hopeless that this may be the best my life gets, never being able to fully trust or let go enough to have other people in my life...it's not just in therapy, I have no friends or partner...I don't seem to let go and be comfortable in my own skin or with others near me. I feel bad for my therapist cause he might be feeling frustrated and hopeless about me and his abilities. It's not him, it's 100% me...feel like I'm failing therapy. Am I unique in this? As therapists, have you come across clients who never get better or let down their walls? Lol, maybe I need alcohol therapy to relax.

I just want to say that I really feel for you. It must be so tough to go through what you do. I can't even imagine...good luck with your therapist.

Hi @Lemonjuice

I cannot help you with your questions, but just wanted to say I am thinking of you and hoping there will be someone out there providing some help.

In January there was a podcast "Dissociation and coping with trauma" on the "All in the mind" channel, I found that really intersting and she described about her identities and how she and her therapist try to work with all her dimensions. Perhaps you would like to listen to that?

@Former-Member thanks. I will search that out.

Re: Advice of counsellors needed.

@Former-Member I just listened to it. Not sure how to feel about it. The things that they are saying, the personal experiences of what it's like, yeah, those are my experiences too. The thing that got to me most was that she was able to hide it from the world and be successful. I've been doubting my diagnosis because 'I'm not like that'... obvious switching, blackouts, extreme behaviours. I'm incredibly ordinary in real life...at least on the outside. That is the most difficult thing about all this, being willing to let go and be 'mad' for an hour once a week. What if they don't go back in. At the same time I can't deny that this is real...I am not lying or tricking myself. I have to trust my therapist or end therapy.
