Seeking mutual support from carers

Seeking mutual support from carers

Reaching out to others who are in a caring role. I look after my mother with multiple health issues, including depression and anxiety. I feel stuck. I can see the signs that the depression has reared its head but my mum doesn't see it. I really struggle when my mum's mental health suffers. I too battle with depression and anxiety. Emotionally, I am all over the place. Hoping there are some others out there who understand what I'm going through.

Hi @Catcakes and @merri

I just wanted to say hi to you both. I understand you both look after your parents and was hoping you could share with me your stories.

i also look after my mum - she is 73 and i live with her. she has both physical illness and mental illness. she is currently in a mental health clinic as her mental health has been declining. hoping she will be home soon.

anyway, would love to hear from you both, and hopefully we can provide each other with support.

x

Re: Seeking mutual support from carers

Hi @Bella1978,
I have caught bits and pieces of your story.
The last two weeks have been heavy going for me as my mum (87 yrs) fell and broke her hip. She was insistent on returning to her home so I have been getting extra supports in place. She has a few medical problems, I have mental health problems and my partner is recovering from a motorcycle accident.
Hope things are going ok with your Mum’s hospitalisation.

Re: Seeking mutual support from carers

hey @Catcakes

thanks for responding 🙂

wow, you definitely have been through a lot lately. i am really sorry to hear about your mum falling and breaking her hip. unfortunately as they get older, it doesn't take much does it? my mum is on blood thinners due to a stroke she had last year - she bruises like there is no tomorrow! poor luv.

like yourself, i also battle mental health problems. so important we look after ourselves before we can look after others, hey? but so many times things come up and it just doesn't happen as easily as we wish it would.

i also hope your partner recovers soon, and you can get some breathing space.

im here if you want to chat *hugs*

Re: Seeking mutual support from carers

Thanks @Bella1978,
I’ve had a long day, takes me 45 mins to drive to Mum’s and I was there from 9 til 4.
Then seven for dinner tonight.
Retiring myself now but hope to chat again.

Re: Seeking mutual support from carers

Sorry im rather slow at typing atm @Bella1978
My day has been a very long and full on one that's for sure. My car broke at a vert bad time making mum and her bf late to workand the kids late to school. i pick the kids up for school while parents go to work.my key broke and Cost me nearly 200 to fix. I went to my nurse and finally loosing weight, they were gettinf ready to send me to a specialist ans is rather not. I spoke to the nurse about my hand and she said i need to get it checked. It looks pretty bad and she said to watch my finger nail so it doesn come off because its ao bruised around the nail bed. So im at the drs tomorrow morning.
Im feeling rather low but im okish.

How are you? Its been a big day for you too.

@outlander

what a day you've had!

you do so much for others luv. you must be exhausted. i'm sending you bit squishy hugs hehe 🙂

im ok, was in a feral mood this morning. but i went and visited my mum this arvo which was nice. got a few things sorted with the psych. looks like she should be able to come home soon. i can see an improvement in her and, to tell you the truth, just want her back home again. don't get me wrong, the clinic she is in is very good. but it's just not the same as when she is at home. and i find myself having to repeat the same thing to different nurses as they havent followed through with what i requested (even after they said they would!) ... i just get frustrated. obviously being mum's carer, i am her advocate too, and want to make sure that she understands what is going on. maybe im just a control freak lol! i guess when a person suffers mental illness they lose a lot of their power and control over things, and i know that upsets mum.

how is your pop luv? has he settled back at home okay?

Re: Seeking mutual support from carers

Sending squishy huga to you too lovely @Bella1978
Its ok to be in a feral.mood sometimes think we all get abit like that sometimes.
Did you see your own psych today?

Your right despite her being take care of its not rhe same as having them home. Its good shes improving though and your getting abit of a break too. It does get frustrating having to repeat yourself but at least you know its been said when you spoke of it yourself

Pops good hea with his visitor and went gallabanting around today and has plans for tomorrow too.

Any plans for tomorrow?
