Seeking mutual support from carers

Seeking mutual support from carers

Reaching out to others who are in a caring role. I look after my mother with multiple health issues, including depression and anxiety. I feel stuck. I can see the signs that the depression has reared its head but my mum doesn't see it. I really struggle when my mum's mental health suffers. I too battle with depression and anxiety. Emotionally, I am all over the place. Hoping there are some others out there who understand what I'm going through.

Re: Seeking mutual support from carers

Ok so heres a few stategies that I think might help you @Bella1978 i have alot more but will give you these as the basics for now

1. when feeling overwhelmed or anxious one thing that often helps is to just BREATHE! Walk away and take a good few slow deep breaths to regroup yourself.

3-3-3 METHOD

this one is quite simple.

Breathe is for 3 seconds, hold for 3 seconds, release for 3 seconds.

Keep repeating until you feel calmer. Count the seconds.

If you find its not deep enough then try 4 seconds with the same technique

2. exercise- I know you like your walks so when you feel abit overwhelmed just go for a short walk around the block, to the letter box and take that breather. Exercise helps to release abit of that built up nervous energy.

3. using the 5 senses- when feeling overwhelmed/anxious

name 5 things you can see

name 4 things you can fee

name 3 things you can hear

name 2 things you can smell

name 1 thing you can taste

@outlander

im glad you liked the youtube vid - it is my fave vid - the friendship between the elephant and dog is beautiful and the whole video clip and song are awesome.

well, sometimes we need to vent. we often keep things bottled up inside and it will sometimes only take one small thing to push us over the edge and it all comes flying out! i am glad you are feeling a bit better now though luv.

im trying to talk to mum, she not interested though. she gets so consumed with what she is thinking she just shuts off and gets annoyed if i try chat. it is as though she is listening to something? i dont know ....

what you doing luv?

x
