Disordered eating and psychosis

Disordered eating and psychosis

Leading up to a psychotic episode, I experienced disordered eating for about three years. Now that I don’t have an eating disorder, I feel all of these intense, anxious emotions.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Does recovery from an eating disorder involve a lot of uncomfortable emotions? I am not very experienced in this area and feel very alone in my battle.

Any experiences welcome.

@LJC1 Hi LJC1 when I was psychotic I became very thin and was obsessed by my weight (I still am in a way). I am 180.34 cm and I got down to a size 10 dress size now because I am on these wretched anti psychotics and mood stabilizers I am a size 14/16 and hating it. It is making me miserable. I want to be thin again and I am terrified I will keep putting on weight. So the answer to your questions are a big yes from me.

THank you greenpea.

I am glad I’m not alone. Sorry your meds are making you a size you aren’t happy with.

My meds have the same effect.

Re: Disordered eating and psychosis

@LJC1
I've had an ED on and off for over 15 years and experience psychosis.
In recovery we often have to face the reasons why we fell into disordered eating and that means dealing with uncomfortable emotions.
Also can totally relate to medication and weight gain, it's one of the reason I'm currently relapsing into my eating disorder. (Also a lot of stress and life stuff, but med change set it off)

Learning your triggers could be be a good way forward. When you realise what makes you feel anxious or upset it makes it easier to face and cope with. I'm so saying it makes everything easier but knowledge about my condition really helped me.
