Lost the battle

Lost the battle

Losing the battle

Today I went and saw my physiologist for my fourth meeting about life and all the stuff. He started of with how have you been since your last appointment and I told him I've had a tough week and felt very low. He was like is that because of the family issues we have talked about last week and I was honest and said yes they are.

He then started talking about how a lot of my issues stem of my childhood and that to fix the issues fully we need delve into it. He then proceeded to say but I'm not coping with it well and it will be to stressful for and him self to discus it as I get to low. He then is like you need your medication and it might work. And for the rest of the session he's like let's talk more light stuff that's upsetting you.

I left that appointment feeling that there is zero chance for me to get well. I'm so messed up even a top of the line doctor is to scared to get me talking. I have literally tried everything but nothing is helping. All I'm seeing is a sign that I don't belong on earth. I'm a mess up that nothing can fix. It's all over for me. I can ever live out a painful horrible lifestyle, drug my self stupid, or get it over and done with. I feel so broken down and done with. I just don't know what other options I have and I'm very tiered of holding on going no something has to change and all that changes is I feel more alone.

I'm literally just sitting here shaking and trying to calm myself down. I can't take any more drugs as I will make my self violently ill. I'm getting zero relief from self harming and I just feel like a burden to everyone.

Re: Lost the battle

****Potential triggers****

Hi @Former-Member, what a hard time you are having. It feels like we are trapped between a rock and a hard place with the past being the rock and talking about it being the hard place. They (the professionals) want us to tell the story in some kind of chronological order - when I was 4 XX happened, when I was 8 XX did this - because they have been trained that getting it out makes you feel better. It has never been my experience that telliing it in this way is in any way, shape or form is useful to my feeling "better". (I am a survivor.)

I hear you have said very clearly you are losing the battle, to take that analogy and use it, if we are losing the battle we need to withdraw with our leaders (and that leader/general can be our inner self, the one who wants the best for us) and regroup and come up with a new strategy. It is pointless just throwing ourselves into the thick of the battle with no armour, an no good practitioner should expect you to lay yourself bare to the many headed/shapr toothed past without some very clear ways of keeping yourself safe, being able to keep yourself strong through it.

What I have found has worked the absolute best for me is to talk about my view of myself today (eg. this week, or last week, whenever recently, when I reacted to such and such an event with anxiety or anger etc) and using tools and information in regards how to be the best i can be 'now' - bit by bit parts of my story that I have never before told have come out in a safe way as part of these kinds of discussions without having to throw myself back into it and trigger post traumatic stress experience. And - the revelation of those parts of my story have been helpful in relation to what I mistakenly learned during those experiences, rather than the experiences themselves.

We all react to trauma with a certain amount of similarity - we all learn things from it in a way that is actually wrong (not wrong 'bad' just mistaken) as we are not equipped as kids (or even young adults) to come up with the perfect, right learning experience, we just muddle through and often we learn something totally bizarre - like - if we are 'just perfect ALL the time' nobody will ever do anything bad to us ever again. Or if we are angry all the time no one can get close enough to hurt us.

Can you speak to your pschologist and say something like... you know i don't want to trawl all over my xx history again, I want to find strengths and ways to be the best I can be today, if my past comes up - then it does, but can you help me be in the present, find some coping strategies for when xyz happens? Are you prepared to help me do that without looking at me as if I am not being 'compliant'?

I dunno - it just seems to me that feeling like you have lost the battle because you don't want to talk about your past is putting immense pressure on you and not helping. Maybe there are other ways to shift the mountain, with a teaspoon instead of a front end loader and come up with some great strategies to make you stronger and more resilient as you go along, before pushing your head back into the mud puddle and expecting you to feel great about that.

Re: Lost the battle

@katiebella thank you for your kind words. I feel like a bit of a hypocrite at times. My second job I do is take motivational speakers into high schools and one of the biggest points we try to drive into the students is "Never make a decision based on an Emotion because Emotions change" I try so hard to hold onto that because if I'm telling the youth to believe it I need to believe it myself. But some days it's just to black. But something keeps me going. Not sure what it is but something comes over me in the blackest of times at the most deadliest moment.

@Shimmer my doctor knows I'm not mentally well but I don't try and talk to him about it. Last time he saw me he decided to check my pulse weight on my arm and found all my marks. I thought for sure he was going to lock me up so I just give him the basic details like what med my physc wants me on and that's it's bipolar. I also know they are in communication because my physc reads me the letters he is sending my doctor.

Some days I'm my normal self, I'm sociable and just happy to go with the flow. Other times I'm super excited and do a thousand things and have a thousand ideas and won't stop because if I know I stop I'm going to crash and get beyond down. My neighbours love me on those highs because when everyone I know is asleep I just bake because I stay up for days. Other days I'm in continually in panic mode and shallow breathing. Right now I'm into day two of a panic attack that won't leave me. But even in all those moods I'm still empty inside.

Re: Lost the battle

Hi @MoonGal my physc doesn't want to talk to much about my past anymore and want to talk more about things that are affecting me day to day. But I know in the end we will have to go into the past because I know that's a huge reason why I'm not well and I don't want my past to be a reason why I'm sick. I fought very hard to be different to my whole family and I'm not going to let them at all in anyway affect me. But yep I'm need a lot more armour on to tackle that. Hopefully soon I can look it in the eye and take it on
