Hi Jamc,
I can totally relate to what you're saying.
For me it's like no matter how hard I try or despite doing all the 'right' things I still, eventually, end up 'down'.
My psych suggested to me this week that I need to try and be more assertive because I try to make other people happy all the time so I don't have to deal with conflict. This, to the detriment of my own needs/wants. Perhaps he's right and could be the reason I end up 'down' because I'm always putting others first.
Also, I think the more you try and the more effort you make to 'fix' yourself, the more disappointing it is when it doesn't seem to work.

I totally agree.
I personally can be too hard on myself and expect perfection. I am really feeling up at the moment as I am eating healthy and exercising. I'm also gearing myself up to get in the right head space to kick smoking. I know it will be tough but I'm going to forgive myself if I lapse and not beat myself up.
Keep going Jamc.
