soul’s year of recovery

soul’s year of recovery

Hi - many of you on the forums know me. Thought it might be time to start a new thread.

2017 was an especially awful year for me. I escaped an extremely violent and abusive relationship fleeing the country where I was living and returning to Australia. My mother passed away and I was ostracised from my family. And lastly, just when I thought I was getting my act together and was on holiday, I sustained an injury from an accident which has left me somewhat incapacitated.

I have found a lot of support here and will continue to lean on those who I have come to know as friends. So come along with me as I try to make this year an improvement on last @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member @Shaz51 @Former-Member @utopia @Bunniekins @Former-Member @Determined @outlander @CheerBear @Maggie @TAB @Sans911 @Former-Member @Former-Member @frog @Former-Member @Bimby2 @Appleblossom and anyone else who has followed my story.

When the clock struck 12 on New Year’s Eve, I made a few resolutions and goals in various areas of my life for the coming year. One thing I wanted to do was to regain was my physical fitness. I had been feeling so strong and well before my accident. I had been walking/jogging for at least 10kms each day and going to yoga sessions seven times a week. After my shattered shoulder and nerve damage through my arm, Yoga is out and I was fortunately able to put my membership on hold. I started walking again this past week and can manage 2kms. My arm is still in a sling and feels as heavy as lead and I can’t manage walking the dog yet. I am trying to be as independent as I can be and have seen progress. At least I can shower myself now. I miss being able to do the things I used to - like driving and even hanging out the washing.

Today was my Mum’s birthday so that was really hard. The kids and I went to the park where her ashes were scattered - the rose bush sporting a single feeble looking bloom. Afterwards, we had lunch together so that was nice.

I’ve had a break from medical stuff over the Christmas New Year period but the appointments start back tomorrow with an EMG where they will put electrodes on me and give me electric shocks to assess the nerve damage. Not really my idea of fun.

Anyway - onwards and upwards. That’s the plan in any case.

Still so hard to be without my little friend. Yesterday I went walking and walking - an hour in the morning and another hour in the afternoon plus an hour of exercise in the pool to wear me out so I would sleep. This has became elusive lately. She would be either in her doggy bed at the foot of mine or up on the bed with me. If I stirred, she would snuggle up. In winter she would even come under the covers with me.

During my afternoon walk, a little puppy of the same breed came up to me. The owner remarked that I wasn't out with mine and that set me off. Hope he didn't think I was rude but I had to walk away.

Then this afternoon, the postie came by asking where my little buddy was. Ironically he was delivering two little matching tear drop locket necklaces for my daughter and I in which we will put some of the ashes in.

My pooch would love to greet couriers and this postie and really anyone who came to the door. I told the Postie that she had passed away and he gave me a hug. He felt really sorry that he had said the words he had but he wasn't to know.

Tomorrow the ashes will be delivered so I suppose that will provide some closure.

Apologies @soul

I didn't receive your notification...

I homed a cat where owner could no longer keep...loved him...we only had one year together and he left this world....held him wrapped in a blanket for a long time lit candles..said some special words..

next day rang animal shelter barely understandable through sobbing.she advised me to visit..I said I couldn't..she said will be soothing..

went..she knew who I was. Tears..handed me resident cat to hold..

I sat and held that cat for ages..talking to her..feeling her heart beat and listening to her purr..she rubbed her head around my neck..she let me share herself..the vet told me after that the cat knew...animals can sense loss..the cat was giving herself to me to assist in my grieving

I went back a couple of days later..met my late soul fur baby and adopted him..you know the rest..

I have a teddy bear to hug now when I need that special hug...that my soul fur baby used to give me when he melted into me..my two cats now are beautiful too..

I feel your pain...you will go through this time and love your beloved pet no less..💚

Re: soul’s year of recovery

Received my little darling dog's ashes this week. The cremation place also included a lovely golden paw print and lock of fur - I asked for two lots - one for my daughter as well. We bought little fillable lockets and put a tiny quantity in them. Made for some closure but still very hard as she is missed terribly.

I did walk the neighbour's dog yesterday and have arranged to do doggy day care whilst the owner is at work so that will be lovely company. The dog is a boy, different coloured but adorable just the same. And he is quite energetic.

Tomorrow I leave to visit my big brother in NQ. My visit coincides with the first anniversary of our mother's passing so it will be good to be in his company. I want the occasion to be an uplifting one.

I shall be missing my male friend. Things are going along very nicely and it's great to have someone to laugh and cry and talk and share and hang out with. I had forgotten what it was like to be in a healthy relationship. Never thought it would happen for me but this is one very welcome event in my life.

Catch up again soon.
