i feel like im 'old' and ive lived but my life should really only be starting. i feel my traumas taken away my ability to experience all the joy and has turned me into an over reacting boring serious person but im not sure how to change it either. just feelng rather strange

well, i dont think you overreact or are boring or serious @outlander i think youre lovely and a really nice person to chat to. and if i say so then it's right! 🙂 just dont argue hehe
you've had to grow up a lot faster than others your age due to your life experiences and your role as a carer for your pop. i feel that i had to grow up faster than i wanted to, ie mum having depression, being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 14, my brother passing away in a car accident about 6 months later, and the when i was 25 my dad died fom a heart attack. my brother's death was definitely the trigger in the decline in my mental health. life can be really hard sometimes luv. you are such a strong person who has been through a lot, please be proud of what you do.
i do think it would be good if you could access some assistance though luv, whether it be through carers australia or government funded assistance. for example, we have someone come on a fortnightly basis who vacuums and mops our home, and cleans our bathroom. takes a bit of stress off me in that department. you may be able to get assistance helping your pop. anything to lighten your load a bit would be a big help for you.

thanks @Bella1978 but i could dispute that bit but i wont.
thats alot youve had to deal with too, your a loveley and strong person too
yes i grew up very fast and without much choice , makes me feel rather differrent to everyone else and find it really hard to interact with others as well.
i go to therapy as support as well as my gp and the forums as well. no friends or (willing) family memebers to help at all. i can usually manage myself- pop doesnt really cause all that many issues. it seems my own body is causing more than pop. i dont think id be able to get that sort of support as im physically able and pop can still manage quite abit on his ownwhen hes well, so not sure he would meet that criteria...

@outlander
youve definitely had a lot to deal with in your life luv, in relation to your own mental and physical health, and looking after others. and feeling that your own body is letting you down is the last thing you need! so i hope your body starts behaving itself!
even though you are carer for your pop, he still may be eligible for assistance. but i know what you mean, when they are well all is good, but when things turn pear shaped thats when we need the extra help. i find i manage with mum - i give her a lot of emotional support and take her out, etc. the doctor in ED said that was a lot for me to take on, etc without help from others, eg community support people. i just do it, and i enjoy it. when her mental health declines it is very hard though. and mum is someone who likes to keep to herself, do her own thing. kind of catch 22 - get some other people in for social support but at the same time making sure mum is happy to do so. im not going to just spring it on her you know? otherwise poop will hit the fan lol

thank you @Bella1978 ![]()
its hard to find a balance in there sometimes isnt it with catch 22s.
