Something’s not right

New Year's Eve/Day.

New Year's Eve/Day.

Hi, I don't know about the rest of you guys but this is going to be the loneliest and most depressing 24 hours I have experienced in my life. My dad died seven years ago. My sister moved away. My niece and nephew are now young adults going to parties. That leaves just mum and me...and mum is a misery guts with mild dementia...so even she won't be entirely there...lol. Can't help but think about how my future is going to look as things progress and mum dies and the kids move away. I see me alone in a tiny flat with loads of cats...talking aimlessly at passersby. Breathe!

Anyways, I will try despite all of it, to have a good time. I will be cooking up a cake later and bought some meats for a bbq for tomorrow. On the 2nd, I'm going to drag my butt out of bed at 5am to go fishing.

What's happening for others here? Plans, NYs resolutions, fears, hopes, activities, etc?

Re: New Year's Eve/Day.

I've never posted in one of these forums, but I thought tonight I might give it a go (need to start sometime, right?)

@Phoenix_Rising, it's really helpful to hear that someone else has been through lonliness that severe - it gives me some hope.

I have lived alone for a bit over 4 years now; the last 8 months in my new home. I'm not a cat person - I have a little dog. Work and social situations have changed for me; I have become increasingly isolated and can't seem to break the cycle. I have 3 close friends, but they all have families. This is the second year I have spent NYE with just my dog. This year feels worse because my car has broken down, so I am stuck at home, just out of town. Not where I planned to be at 30... but, like you said, it is what it is.

I haven't decided if I am going to try and stay up until midnight or head to bed early. I guess I'll see how the next few hours pan out.

Hi @B-Lou

Welcome to the Forum.

Sounds like it's been a tough time for you lately. Sorry to read you've been feeling pretty isolated. You'll find this forum a good place to connect with people who have been facing the same challenges. I have been moderating for a while now and am continually impressed by the strength, care, mutual support and resilience of Forum members.

Keep reading, exploring the site, posting and joining in. There are often themes - tonight being NYE.

All the best

Re: New Year's Eve/Day.

Heya B-Lou,
I'm also a 30-ish, with only a few friends and I sometimes feel lonely. I mostly really enjoy being alone, but when the loneliness hits, it can be really hard.
I'm doing NYE alone, but I'm quite happy about it. I get stressed going out and feeling like I have to be 'having a good time' even if I'm not.
I'm watching buffy right now with a glass of wine. Care to join me?

Re: New Year's Eve/Day.

I am extroverted and can be quite social given the chance (which I don’t seem to get anymore). I can also be what I sense to be socially awkward too, though.

@Former-Member Sounds like you’ve got a good setup for yourself tonight.

For me it will be The West Wing and some Chai tea.

Re: New Year's Eve/Day.

@B-Lou I feel kind of honoured that you would start writing in my thread about your experience. I'm the same, can be extroverted but kind of awkward socially. Sucks about the car. Mine is due for rego in March and I don't think I will be able to get it through inspection. I'm thinking about Gofundme to raise enough funds to cover the cost of repairs. Gotta to love dogs...better than people sometimes...most times actually.
