Something’s not right

New Year's Eve/Day.

New Year's Eve/Day.

Hi, I don't know about the rest of you guys but this is going to be the loneliest and most depressing 24 hours I have experienced in my life. My dad died seven years ago. My sister moved away. My niece and nephew are now young adults going to parties. That leaves just mum and me...and mum is a misery guts with mild dementia...so even she won't be entirely there...lol. Can't help but think about how my future is going to look as things progress and mum dies and the kids move away. I see me alone in a tiny flat with loads of cats...talking aimlessly at passersby. Breathe!

Anyways, I will try despite all of it, to have a good time. I will be cooking up a cake later and bought some meats for a bbq for tomorrow. On the 2nd, I'm going to drag my butt out of bed at 5am to go fishing.

What's happening for others here? Plans, NYs resolutions, fears, hopes, activities, etc?

@Lemonjuice Hi Lemonjuice well I have beaten you to it with the cats talking aimlessly to passersby! You are funny 😄 I like your posts.

Fishing sounds like a good way to spend the day ... I used to go fishing alot when I was younger... now not at all. I will be going for a nice leisurely walk and doing some cooking. I would like to learn to knit this year ... yes greenpea is an old codger hence the cats and talking aimlessly to passersby.

Plans are to get my life back on track. I want to be able to function like a normal human being whatever normal is ... then again I look around and I am not so sure....

Re: New Year's Eve/Day.

@Bunniekins Lol, maybe we should move in together and share the cats! As for knitting, I learned when I was a kid by my aunt...problem is that she moved overseas, hence I have several attempted pieces all up to the armpits...things get tricky after that. There might be knitting events in local community groiups and even pubs that you could check out.

@Lemonjuice Cheers for that Lemonjuice. One of my resolutions is to get out and meet more people in rl ... I am a bit of a nerd you see.

I liked your post last night ... you have a dry sense of humour 😄

Hi @Appleblossom @Lemonjuice @Bunniekins

I plan on hiding in my bed tonight and doing nothing. Hoping I will be asleep before 12 with the help of meds. Such an exciting life I have!

Re: New Year's Eve/Day.

hi @Former-Member @Lemonjuice @Appleblossom @Bunniekins

NYE is just another night for me, the same as any other, and all the hoo ha and enforced 'happiness' and resolutions plays havoc in my head and smashes my self-esteem. For more than 30 years I've ignored NYE celebrations and gone to bed early like I always do. This year my 13 year old dog and I will be snuggled up in bed together, where it'll be dark and she hopefully won't hear the fire works. Anyway, her mum will be with her to hold her if she gets distressed.

Anyway, this holiday break has been very calming for me and I'm starting to accept myself, and I think it's been a combination of realising my support people do and have cared for me for ages, and trusting that ; knowing that my psychologist cares; being part of the forum family; and the conversations I continue to have with my new friend Lil Bro. Meeting Lil Bro on the bus, and continuing to catch up a couple of times a week, allows me to care for and connect with another human being....so even if our friendship lasts only another day, or week, or even a year, I value what we share/d....he's let me into his lonely world, and his kindness and humanity have earned him a special place in my heart. Stop it, NatalieS, you'll be crying all over the keyboard in a minute!

Hi @Lemonjuice

Giggle - you just described my life...except I live in a 2-bedroom villa, only have one cat at the moment after having had two die in the past 13 months, and I have zero inclination to talk to anyone passing by.

I do hear what you are saying. I used to be horrendously lonely - so lonely that I wondered if a person could actually die of loneliness. However, I can honestly say that for better or worse, that has passed now. I very much live in my own little world and I can see that I am becoming more ok with that by the day. It is certainly not where I planned to be at 40 years old, but it is what it is. I figure that most people experience loneliness and social isolation at some point in their life - I just seem to have gone through that experience a bit earlier than most others do. It is amazing how we learn to cope and adapt, Lemonjuice.
