Something’s not right

voices

Hi all,

I came across this forum while scouring the Internet (as you do) in the hope of finding answers to this question.

So I've heard that it's normal to hear voices inside your head but not outside... that is, it's only if you hear voices outside your head then you should be concerned. Voices inside your head that belong to 'people' that you can actually see if you step back from the outside world and you're body, are fine/good/normal.

The thing that confuses me a little is that when I mentioned 'people inside your head' to a doctor in Emergency (he was anathestist) he assumed that I meant thoughts. These are not thoughts though, I mean, I know what my thoughts are(!) I think them, I don't hear them and I definately don't see people telling them to me. Is that weird.

Sorry, perhaps this makes no sense at all. A whole of things have gotten seriously out of control lately and I'm trying to work out what's safe to say to people about it and what's not. 😕

Re: voices

I thought I replied to this earlier but it doesn't look like I did.

So I went the GP. He didn't ask much I didn't tell him much but he told me I should see a particular psychiatrist who bulk bills students. I don't know what I think about seeing a psychiatrist but I haven't had to decide really because he can't see me until January. By then I think I'll have either worked this all out for myself and won't need him or my world will have collapsed and I won't care enough to see him.

Since then (was that Friday?) I wound up at Emergency one other time and saw a psych there who I'd seen once before. I told her I thought things were improving. She said, nope they're getting worse. She agreed January is too far away but didn't have a better option.

Then my some members of my peanut gallery had an idea, which honestly scares me quite a lot, but since they hatched this plan they've been less bothersome, so maybe it's okay.

Life will go on right? It always does...

Re: voices

Hi briar,
I'm sorry to hear you were in the emergency dept. did the psych have any ideas that were helpful? Is there any sort of counselling or community health that you could connect with until January?
Is the plan that your peanut gallery going to be acted on? And if it does feel like it will be is it safe or dangerous? Please keep reaching out or going to the ed like you did to keep safe. Things can get better with help and treatment. It is so frustrating that you aren't getting the help you need sooner!!

Keep reaching out ... sorry the services are so inadequate ...

Its good you are getting some respite from the bothersome peanuts ... and as you know their plans ... you can knock them in line if they rear their ugly heads at you again ...

Re: voices

I have felt overwhelmed by my own anger .. but keep trying to find ways to channel it productively ... we are not our thoughts .... even if they are scary.

Re: voices

Brair, I find when mine get really bad it's really helpful to be around other people, who aren't hearing what I'm hearing. Maybe visit a friend for the evening?

Re: voices

Thanks appleblossom and bec.

I hope that I didn't worry anyone or do anything else wrong here that day. Something happened that freaked me out but I don't think I should talk about it here. I really have no idea what I'm doing so I hope you all will tell me if I do/say something wrong.

I've been drinking quite a lot the last couple of months and I thought it might be a good idea to stop for a few days. So I did and it made me feel healthier, physically, which was good. But everything else is much, much worse. Probably I should start again but not sure if I even care enough to do that. It seems like an effort now.

I'm not usually this person... but it's like I can barely remember who I am. I don't know if that makes any sense.

It's also getting quite hard to keep up the facade and make my (intellectual) brain work. It's marking season so I'm supposed to be working to a tight deadline but I read the same lines over and over and it's all I can do to keep my eyes open let alone focus on what the poor student is saying. I know it's really important that I do and students' lives are riding on the marks I give, so I'll keep persevering but I never knew it to be so hard. (end of my whine - thanks for reading).
