Re: :/

Hi @TheVorticon .....

I agree with you, that a whole bunch of micro-change stuff can result in macro-change. That’s what I am personally more comfortable with for a few reasons .....

”Baby steps” or micro-changes are easier to make. There is often a lot of psychological gearing-up before macro-changes can be made - unless something dramatic happens to us that forces a whole lot of change at once - and whether geared-up for, or a forced change, macro-change can be less stable.

Micro-change helps is to consolidate the small changes as we go, adapting to them, testing that they work for us before trusting them as part of the foundations before making the next micro-change.

Micro-changes can be easier to use as exchanges .... exchanging one small behaviour for another one, because the new behaviour serves our purposes better, or feels more comfortable, or the results of it feel more comfortable.

As you said, you’re no rookie, so there are self-help resources around for CBT. If you wanted to try it under the guidance of an instructor, your gp is probably the starting point for asking around.

See what you think .....

One of the mods might come past and let us know whether the Helpcentre is available for this sort of chat.

“if you keep doing micro-changes they will eventually accumulate into a macro-change”... which is fine in theory but in practice I am stuck even though I feel like I am doing the stuff for micro-changes

I'll refer back to what I said previously about micro-changes. They're not helping. They're helping themselves but nothing more. Every one is still a massive effort and repeatedly doing them has not been helping for anything else. If CBT can only help with the same micro-changes then I don't need to revsit it because I can already do micro-changes myself, and have been doing them myself for over 10 years.

The theory of combining many micro's into a macro has stagnated for me and is not happening.

Yo @Former-Members...

What sort of discussions are meant to be conducted over the SANE helpline (phone or chat)?

Re: :/

I really don't understand the moderation style on here. It operates in a way that to me is incredibly irksome.

How about some sort of acknowledgement, like "Hey, I see your question, I don't know the answer cause I'm just a temporary night mod but I'll pass it on and someone will get back to you."

Tumbleweeds drive me crazy, just sayin'.

Re: :/

Hi @TheVorticon, sorry someone didn't get back to you sooner. We're happy to have any discussion related to mental illness on the SANE helpline (either phone or chat). Some people have asked for links to resources and other people just want someone to talk to on a really tough day. Generally, just as it is on the forums, we cannot refer you to a specific agency or make recommendations on a type of treatment but we can generally refer you to a good place to start your search. Hope that answers your question. 🙂

Thanks for your reply @Former-Member.

Thanks @Faith-and-Hope. Not sure if/when I'll try it.

Re: :/

Not a problem @TheVorticon. Take your time to decide. The great thing is you are wanting to take care of yourself and looking for supports. All the best.

Re: :/

Alright this is doing my head in so I'm just gonna put this out here (after counting the # of posts on this page to check if it'll get appropriately buried... sweet, this'll be #10)...

I want to come out to y'all as trans/nonbinary.

I sort of mentioned this a few months ago but deleted it, so I'm not sure how many people saw it/understood/cared/whatevs. But no one actually replied before I deleted it sooooooo yep. That was fun.

My pronouns are still he/his.

I'm open to any questions from anyone reading this, but you don't have to come up with a question just cause I said that haha.

Re: :/

@TheVorticon I am replying because I think you deserve it.

Sometimes it takes courage to speak up say that you are trans/nonbinary and talk about gender sterotypes.

I like you for who you are, not for what gender you are.

I hope you are having a good day.
