I am struggling to connect with God. It's a struggle to just thank Him each day as I don't see anything change. I don't feel any better than I did 3 years ago when my life got turned upside down. It's been nothing but disappointment, trauma and pain with one or 2 highlights where God has deigned to answer my prayer. It hurts, I hurt and I wish I had a better relationship with God.

Re: Christian Chat

Hugs @ENKELI I feel similarly, but for a very long time. My approach is to pray, as if he or she exists, as a loving parent or father or being. It may all be wishful thinking. Sorry to be a doubting Thomas. I keep talking to Him, (or Sophia) and interpret any good moment as positive. I try to gain encouragement and give it, around people who try and do the right thing, as giving up completely seems unwise. I feel silly and foolish a lot of the time. Sorry I cant send you a special scripture to turn all that around.

I dont really believe people who are extremely intense about their versions of knowing or seeing God. I have seen a lot flip flop between yes and no, or truth and lies, which makes me wary of that style of religiosity. I am just doing my best, and if I query my life circumstances too much, my mental health plummets, with self blame, to add to the social blame. So I go back to my quiet inner reverend prayerful style. I do find people with that approach often lead better lives. I dont want to judge, but we do have to discern and make various decisions.

Re: Christian Chat

@Appleblossom I know God exists, I know He is my true father. There's no doubt about that. I j7st feel disconnected from Him and wish I had the connection my Christian friends do.

I gave my life to Jesus a long time ago and I have witnessed and experienced wonderful blessings.

It's just now that I realise I have not seen Him work in my life the past 3 years. As if He is saying, you have no faith so I have no faith in you.

Hope this makes sense.

Question: you use the name Sophia. Where does that originate from?

Take care 🫂🥰

Re: Christian Chat

@ENKELI

Belief and faith and our private practices can vary so much. I am researching a lot about the different styles.

For a while, I was hearing about Sophia ...meaning wisdom... in church ... by people as a female energy or side of God. Some believe it, some dont. I bought an Inclusive Bible once, but after a while, I gave it to a minister who was preaching and interested in those ideas.

I guess, I just dont experience certainties the way many people seem to, I wonder if it from being abandoned at 6. I have a very tentative vulnerable sense of self, which I have been working on. I remain grateful to the nuns, and found my own way of prayer when I was sent to a state orphanage. I had to adapt in many different directions. Maybe the miracle is that I am still here. My parents did their best. Life has had many complications.

@ENKELI

My family has been strongly impacted by these issues. I have my personal relationship with my sense of God, but also never really received good and proper attention throughtout my life, so just dont know what it feels like, to experience love. I make the most of good little memories and mindfulness in the present. I dont believe good things in life is about the amount of faith one has, as I have seen too many pretend. To put it politely, I have to respect my circumstances were unusual. I had a lovely lunch with a group of Spiritual, Christian and Buddhist women today. Grateful. I can afford yum soup of the day, without too much stress, but I have waited a while.

1 Peter 5:6

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” — 1 Peter 5:6 (KJV)

🌿 Biblical summary

Peter is reminding us that humility means placing ourselves willingly under God’s authority and trusting His timing rather than trying to control the outcome ourselves.

God’s “mighty hand” speaks of His power, protection, and sovereignty. When we humble ourselves before Him, we acknowledge:

God is greater than we are.

We don't have to carry everything ourselves.

His timing is better than ours.

He sees what we cannot yet see.

He is able to lift us up when the right time comes.

This verse isn't saying that God wants us to think poorly of ourselves. Biblical humility is more about trusting God completely—letting go of pride, self-reliance, and the need to make everything happen immediately.

And the words “in due time” are especially comforting. They remind us that God's silence or delay does not mean He has forgotten us. Sometimes He is preparing us before He changes our circumstances.

❤️ A simple thought for today

“Lord, I don't need to force what You have promised. I can humble myself, trust Your mighty hand, and wait for Your timing.”

The very next verse gives us the beautiful companion to this instruction: “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

So Peter's message is essentially: Humble yourself. Give God your worries. Trust His timing. He cares for you. 🙏🌿

@ENKELI @Appleblossom @Lorenze @Dimity @Realness @DownMoreThanUp and for me too and all other people waiting on God! I'm hearing you ENKELI and Appleblossom. Sending gentle hugs 💚

My sisters, i hear you loud and clear.

And i know that ache you both talk about so well. The kind that starts young — when you wonder why you had to fight to be loved, to be seen, to be wanted. i've carried a rejection mindset most of my life because of it. For more than twenty years i pined after God — after knowing Him, after healing, after something real. So i know what it is to love Him and still struggle to find Him.

@Lozenge @heartathome @Realness @Shaz51 @MissGremlin

What i want to share isn't about what a good Christian i was — for it certainly was not like that. Rather, this is where i met Jesus in my life. At the bottom — the very place where i had been hurting since i was a child.

The break came when i was completely dejected. i asked Jesus to put me last — to save the whole world before me if He would, as long as He saved those who were perishing. Not because i was holy. Because i was empty. And because somewhere underneath it all, i trusted that He had saved me — and i couldn't stop thinking of those still suffering, who did not even know that God was true. It was then — at my lowest — that His love finally broke through.

i don't have fancy words for what happened. God's love came down into my heart with such glory i thought i was going to die. i had never felt love like that. Never. The father-love i'd been denied all my life didn't trickle in — it flooded in, and filled me to overflowing. i was lying flat on the ground, my flesh literally quivering with delight, and i was sure i would die — and i didn't care at all if i did. I remember asking Him if i could just stay with Him forever.

And then, almost in the same breath, the old voice came: you're psychotic. This is your imagination. It isn't real.

But Jesus made sure i knew it was Him — His Word of truth speaking in my heart: God's love, faith and hope.

A few months earlier, out of hunger and frustration, i had thrown out all my self-taught religion and my worldly education, and told God: from now on, You teach me. i stopped "studying" the Word the way i'd been trained — memorising, analysing, performing — and started reading it the way a thirsty person drinks: when my heart felt the need to hear what God had to say to me. i would just open the Book and read where the Spirit arrested my eye. i read the Word of God like this for years — asking after everything — and let the Word sort out His truth from my lies. Only The Word of God, nothing ADDED or explained about that by others but only The Spirit of truth lived right inside my own heart

For there — in my heart and in my mind — He proved His Word alive. What i read wasn't about a dead past — it was about me — and what lived inside of me. My inner world. My wounds. My way home. The very thing i had just lived on the ground — the glory filling the temple, the Father and Son making their home in a human heart — i found written in Ezekiel 43 and John 14:23. The Word was alive because He was alive, and He was speaking to me. He was teaching me to love God, myself, and others — truly.

So when you're struggling, dear sisters, to feel close to God, or to have a sense of a Father who comforts you and establishes you in your faith — this is the one thing i wish someone had told me: the struggle to be close to Him is not a sign that He is far. When it feels like God is not there, or not answering, or doesn't love you the way He loves others — that feeling is not the truth. It's a fog in front of the truth. i came to call those feelings what they are: anti-Jesus feelings — the whisper that He is absent, or disappointed, or that you must become something first before He'll want you. Or He loves other people more. Or The Word is not true for me. And as long as i believed the feelings instead of His Word, i couldn't experience Him.

What changed everything was small and simple. i began offering those times of blindness back to Him: "i can't feel You right now. i don't believe right now. Take this from me — give me back Your faith and Your truth." And slowly, truly, His good life began to take over my bad one.

That's all i have to offer — not a method, not a ladder. Just this: He is not waiting for you to find Him from above. He is already down where you are — inside the question itself. And the love you already have for Him? That's not your doing. That's His work in you. Let it be enough to keep you asking. The asking is the finding, one day at a time. Consider letting The Word of God Himself grow you a new life. It sure paid of big time in my life living His truth true amidst my life in lies.

The Living Word Saves

Meeting Jesus in my deepest pit

brought an end to all my inner pain;

through His love, the Living Word made fit

my heart to live and breathe again.

First, like a farmer, He pulled up my weeds,

turned the soil, laid every stone bare;

then gently sowed His life-giving seeds,

tending me with patient, fruitful care.

Yes, the Word's voice in the Spirit of love

drew me near and held me there;

His life now dwelling from heaven above —

a living gift He longs to share.

So from your pit, rise up and come away;

let Him sow His life within your soul.

Find living truth in Him today,

your soul now living whole.

Re: Christian Chat

Thanks for the explanation @Appleblossom, I have never heard of Sophia before.

I understand that feeling of abandonment, my father left when I was 5. I was fortunate however, or blessed maybe? - as I had my mum and her family to look after me. My maternal grandmother was a true Christian woman and someone I looked up to. She never judged and her faith was strong.

I have always known God exists but I haven't always agreed with Him! I also have been wondering where He is at the moment.

You're right, we do all have our own interpretation of belief and faith and I hope I didn't come off as rude for that is certainly not what I intended. I am often too direct for my own good.

Whatever your belief is, I pray that it helps and that you find peace and some kindness each day, for you deserve that and much much more xoxo

Re: Christian Chat

Thanks for your encouragement. @DownMoreThanUp I really liked the beautiful scenery and voice in the Argyle video. Very me, I love good rock formations. lol Yes I also vary between doing structured reading, and dipping into the bible spontaneously and seeing what message I find.

Dont worry @ENKELI I never felt it as rude, as we have been connecting genuinely for a while. I just was expressing myself in my way, with my authentic backgrounds and experiences. I dont know what is normal. Its also what I just read in the news. My father was in a Christian Brother orphanage famous for abuse. I was grateful for the nuns. My abuse was in the state one. Weird and complicated. My spiritual practice also has a huge griefload so it involved more than just me, It includes all those who died young in my family.

Honestly, I accept us both as unique children of God. I am glad we keep sharing. My maternal nanna was genuine and good woman, but also suffered. She raised small children through war-time. Did beautiful sacred art, in weaving and wool. I loved her Tree of Life. We also had some masses said by priests in her home. I am learning to tell the difference between intention, and social position. History and socioeconomic isssues all come into play. I just dont believe in a prosperity gospel, that a good life is a sign of a good person. Or that hard times means one is not good.

Hugs @Realness @heartathome
