Road back to good health

Road back to good health

I struggle with Mental health issues and I have found the following really helpful in times of distress;

  • listening to uplifting music / Hans Zimmer soundtracks / Metallica / Mindful Meditation tapes
  • watching comedy - movies / tv / YouTube , watching football - A League, EPL, Socceroos
  • reading books on Kindle / iBooks / Kobo
  • going out for a walk to clear my head
  • taking the dog out for a walk
  • juicing Kale, Spinach, Celery, Beet Root, apples, lemon to increase energy
  • drinking atleast 3 L of water
  • Portugese chicken / good source of protein
  • Greek yoghurt / ProBiotics / Organic Apple Cider Vinegar to aid digestion and avoid acid reflux
  • Planning meals to make sure I eat enough
  • correcting bad posture
  • Good physical health is part of good mental health
  • Gym session atleast once a week, help raise confidence and self esteem
  • working - helps keep my mind occupied and busy
  • Therapy can help us heal from trauma / Medications to aid my recovery
  • saving money - spending money only on essentials like food, water, rent, electricity, gas and clothes
  • Attending support group once a week regularly - perspective and strategies to help myself
  • Spending time with close friends and allocate time for fun / not letting anxiety win by not isolating
  • Chamomile tea is so relaxing..Twinnings Sleep is my fav...
  • Sleeping well - not staying up too late or sleeping in - self control and discipline...
  • Reading your good qualities every morning to raise self esteem
  • keeping a journal to record negative thoughts / challenging them and rejecting negativity daily changing core negative beliefs due to years of self loathing / self sabotage

If life has been unfair to us, things can get better if we become self-advocates and keep searching for better options. Support from other people is important, but ultimately its important to be able to rely on ourselves as well.

Hi @Former-Member

Thank you for sharing this extensive list of coping strategies to use in times of distress - they are so helpful!

You are so right - things can get better if you find a balance between reaching out for support, whilst at the same time advocating for yourself and finding options that help you cope better.

I hope forum members who are in distress right now, see your wonderful tips!

Kindest,
