I'm sorry to hear that you feel embarrassed and ashamed of your Iillness. That is not a good place to be in. I think I felt that way at first too. Now I am so much better.
I suffered from a major depression over ten years ago. It was terrifying. Looking back, I believe that I too, suffered some symptoms of psychosis at that time. My psychiatrist wanted to start me on an anti-psychotic drug at one point (not that that would necessarily mean much, as these drugs are used for a range of conditions.)
Looking back, I don't know how it would have helped me to know that I could have had a few psychotic symptoms. I don't especially want to read my medical records... there doesnt seem like much point now.
Yeah, its kind of weird that the doctors don't tell you absolutely everything. I guess they don't want to alarm you hif it turnsl out to be nothing much.
But the fact that it was confirmed that you had a psychotic episode, but no one thought to tell you is odd to me!
I really don't understand why that would be kept from you. I'm sorry that you are not in a position to ask about this. It would be good to get some answers!
Can you write your doctor an email to ask?

The funny thing is, I am already in the private system. The public system treated me like shit. They chewed me up and spat me out to die.
I'm not sure where I stand on the above right now. I seem to vacillate back and forth about things.
I won't go off my medication. But I'm not so sure about how involved I want to be in doctors appointments and the like.
I'm just not sure.
But I know I don't want to be involved in this way forever. I just want to stop being thought of as some broken mentally ill patient. And I want things to not be hidden from me anymore.
I feel there is a level of wellness I will never get being involved in the mental health care system. When I last left hospital, the doctor asked me what diagnosis I wanted.
WHAT the fuck. What kind of shitty mind games is he playing by asking me to decide on my own diagnosis. He's the doctor, not me. It's those kind of games I'm sick of.
No one will tell me what my diagnosis is these days. And that's bullshit.
I'm just sick of it.
I'm sick of being ill.
I'm sick of constantly being judged and thought of as a broken mentally ill person.
All I want is just to be a person. Just a normal, boring, ordinary person.

I'm studying public health and one of my interests is communicating scientifically accurate and socio-culturally helpful information to the public.
I'd love to see what your sources are.
But I do have to put out there that meds have saved my life, a 100 times over. I fell better, more alive and so so much less mentally ill when I take them. They have a hell of a lot of side effects, and I sometimes hate taking them. But for me personally they've been a life line.
You don't have to request to come off them..... unless you are on a community treatment order. No one can force you to take them, unless ordered to do so by the court. It is also my understanding that even then you don't have to take them, you can elect to go to jail instead.
Some people are helped a lot by meds, some not at all, but I think most in-between. But meds causing brain damage is still very much up in the air.
I've gained 25kg on antipsychotics and they make me think slow and generally feel a little off. But they are so so so so much better than being ill. I know lots of people disagree with me, but that's the way I feel.
