The perfect patient

The perfect patient

Hi All,

I'm scared about my first apppointment with a new psychiatrist tomorrow.

I'm so used to having my mask on around others I don't know how I'll be able to remove it and explain what's really going on with me.

I hate having to give a run down on my depression over the course of my life.

I come across as being totally together and even happy around new people. Even my GP said a couple of visits ago how well I hide how I feel. I'm the 'perfect patient'. I do everything I'm told and can even come across positive and happy.

I'm scared about what the psychiatrist may recommend in terms of medication.

@Appleblossom - Dancing and singing. I have started signing while I do the dishes, just make it up - ballady type songs about soap suds and lost loves. Wish I could dance! Miss that. May you find your groove. xx

I had a second apointment with the psych and couldn't pull off the 'perfect patient' in any case. I was unable to do all he had suggested the first time.

But I've started new medication with seemingly no real side effects as yet which I am very hopeful about. I don't feel quite as teary either so we'll see how it goes.

I love reading all your posts about all sorts of things by the way.

Glad the session was ok .. I am slowly learning how not to be perfect as a piano teacher ... then I developed a habit of saying "ooops" as often with young children .. but then my "ooops" slips out with other adults it gets annoying ... its a horses for courses .... but ok

cheers

Hey @Cherpieus, glad to hear the new meds are seeming to have no side effects yet. Fingers crossed they help.

Re: The perfect patient

Psychiatrists are not the bee all n end all. Don't make the mistake that they know best because they have a degree. They r as much as imperfect as the rest of us when you take the mental illness out of the equation. Remember they have a duty of care to their clients n confidentiality is the utmost priority in their duty of care. It's ok to fall to pieces. No one is perfect. When I had a mental meltdown I was introduced to my first psych in the hospital n I was soo p... Off when she extended a hand in friendship introducing herself I thumbed my nose up at her and turned my back on her. But I did notice the smile she tried to hide. Although my sisters sitting beside me were not amused. Keeping it real is the first step to helping yourself. If they want you to tell your story over again, don't b shy about asking the psych to read your file. Afterall that's what files are for. Remember we're all human with or without a mental illness.
