Brave public faces - more please

Brave public faces - more please

It makes such a difference to me as a survivor of bipolar (and rough ups and downs over 20 years) to see people like Stephen Fry and John Brogden come out and publicly tell their story.

I want to thank them for their leadership and encourage others to also share. With 1 in 5 people experiencing mental health issues there are plenty more public figures with challenging stories. I hope for a world where their bravery and courage can be supported and they feel safe to talk.

In the mean time, anonymity in places like this helps too. It means that tough experiences can be shared and you can truly appreciate that you are not alone.

One day we will have a rose batty - Australian of the year - for mental health.
A survivor like John Brogden recognised for his bravery.

That will be a good day.

Totally. Apparently he is now taking medication - but it's all a big showy.

For me there are some real insights in Brene Brown's "rising strong"'where she talks about strategies for rising up from hardship - whatever that may be.

Cheers

Re: Brave public faces - more please

It looks like ABOUT 4 of my comments is STILL TO SHOW, because they are being "moderated" EXCUSE ME; but since when AN OPEN FORUM for us to speak out IS MONITORED & MODERATED. I've only used the word that describes blood in your body BUT put "y" on the end. So IS THAT A SWEAR WORD? Are we not grown ups?

Is BIG BROTHER in here? Are people that are ANGRY at the system AND the lack of medical CARE, not allowed to EXPRESS?

I can on social media AND I HAVE RAIASD MUCH AWENESS THERE using my name & my brand TO GET awareness. But the TINY expletives I've used here HAVE NEVER BEEN cencored on Social Media.

I AM NOT IMPREESSSED with this site THAT TREATS us like little children !!!
NOT HAPPY & I shall make my complaint

Hi @Jystme, I'm sorry to hear that you haven't had a great experience here so far. This sometimes happens before people get accustomed to the community guidelines. You can read them here. Their sole purpose is to help people feel safe in the Forums and to do this we don't allow things like mentioning specific medications or details that reveal members identities. We don't generally worry about swear words as long as they aren't directed at any other members.

If you check your emails you'll see that you've been emailed personally after a post is rejected and we've explained how you can make the changes that will allow us to post it. Our goal is to get your posts published but sometimes we need some small changes made first. We'll very happily work with you to get everything up online.

Shoot us a return email if you have any problems and we'll help you sort it out.

Hi @rollercoaster @Appleblossom @chookmojo @Former-Member and @Peter_Pan78, thank you for sharing your thoughts here. I agree it's great to see so many public personalities speaking out about mental illness. I just thought I'd jump in and let you know about this week's Topic Tuesday where we'll be talking about mental health in the media. @Former-Member, ex-ABC journalist and the current coordinator of SANE's Stigma Watch program, will be joining us from 7pm-9pm. It would be great to have your input!
