Images of mental health and illness; what should it look like?

Images of mental health and illness; what should it look like?

Hi everyone,

As some of you may recall, SANE recently asked for people to respond to a survey about images that depict mental health and illness. The survey has since closed and we are crunching numbers. We are looking forward to sharing the results in the not-so-distant future.

In the meantime, to co-incide with Mental Health Week, we want you to show us how you want mental illness to be depicted.

This is your Mental Health Week mission, if you wish to accept:

Upload an image showing how you want mental illness to be depicted. In your post with the image include -

1) Why you picked this image

2) Whether the image is your own or 'borrowed' from the internet (which is fine!)

Some of the favourites will be used as our SANE Facebook page (with your permission).

For those who are not sure how to upload your image - look for this this icon when you click 'reply'

After pressing this, you can 'browse' and upload your image that saved on your computer.

We are really looking forward to seeing your images.

*please ensure images are not identifiable(eg: front on face images is obviously identifiable, though an image of hands is not)

Acoustic or electric?

@Appleblossom I've played classical guitars (nylon strings, my favorite), steel string acoustics and plugged in acoustics. Basic folksy kind of stuff, mainly to accompany my singing. Busked in Sydney for a while a long time ago to help pay the rent. Made a little cash especially when singing in an echoey pedestrian tunnel. I don't have the best voice in the world by any means but some people have liked what they heard.

I am sure it sounded good. @Mazarita

I prefer nylon strings ...I mainly played guitar when I was in Fairfield getting over my hep ... "Hotel California" "House of the Rising Sun" etc ... love the relaxed sound of fol and often go to a folk music camp. Now my son has 3 guitars (nylon, steel, electric) and doesnt play them ... he sounded good too ... but we all have to find our way.

Yep acoustics of tunnels make a lot of difference. I am glad to see so much more busking around during the last few years, but it can also be exhausting .. out in the elements etc.

cheers

Hi @Mazarita

Thank so much for sharing that image. I really like your selection and it looks like a lot of people can relate to that 'mask' of confidence that is depicted in that image.

Does anyone else have images they would like to share?

Keep them coming!

I have chosen this image and it is my own, taken on Sunday morning as the day dawned. It depicts something quite beautiful, a precious and beautiful soul, but something around the edges at this moment in time, is not quite right. It won't be permanent and with love and support, its beauty will shine through.

I have a painting I created about mania but can't attach it - how can I get it to you?

Hi @Charli, I'm not the most technically gifted moderator so perhaps the easiest way is to email it to me and I'll then try to upload. Our email address is team@saneforums.org

This is a photo of me. Please use it however you see fit.
These photos were taken exactly six months apart. The one on the left was when I was so depressed that I couldn't walk, in fact, it was physically painful to stand there and smile for the photo. The other photo I was just happy that I wasn't sick any more, I had beaten depression and was well on my way to recovery.
