Limbo land

Limbo land

Hi,

I haven't been around for a while, but am once again really struggling and at a loss for what to do with myself so thought I'd come on here. I'm in a bad way at the moment. Things have been greadually building up and I'm really not coping. It's got to the point where I'm looking at a hospital admission but that's kind of terrifying me. I've said yes for now, but then been told it'll be about a week before I get a bed so I feel like I'm in a weird limbo of being unwell enough to need hospital but then have to fend for myself in the meantime while i wait. My anxiety tonight is sky high after talking to the intake person at the hospital and discovering the wait. My thoughts keep going to dark places and I keep trying to pull my mind away with distraction and mindfulness but I"m getting so tired of the fight.

Anyways. Just thought I'd post where people might get it.

Re: Limbo land

Hi @embers, I am almost asleep here but I wanted you to know that I have read your post and I can really hear how much you are struggling tonight. I will be back in Forum Land tomorrow morning and no doubt more awake then so that I can respond properly. @Faith-and-Hope is a bit of a night owl so she might pop past and say hi. It sucks that you have to wait a week for a bed in the hospital. I hope you can feel supported here in Forum Land during this super tough time.

Re: Limbo land

Good morning @embers,

I am awake now. I hope you had a restful night. I super like your avatar.

I'm really glad you decided to come and hang out in Forum Land. You are right - Forum Land is much nicer than Limbo Land. It does sound ridiculous doesn't it that people recognise it would be most helpful for you to be in hospital, and then tell you that you will have to wait a week! Have you been in hospital before? You mentioned that the idea of it is terrifying you a bit. Would you like to share more about what is scaring you about it?

I can totally hear how tired you are of fighting the thoughts that take you to dark places. Do you have any support out there in the real world? You mentioned that you were posting here because we might get it. Does that mean you don't have people in your real world, or that you have people in your real world but they don't get it? I know that both of those situations can be equally difficult.

Anyway, I super hope that today has dawned a little brighter for you.

Re: Limbo land

Hi @embers

Sorry to read of your struggle with anxiety and dark thoughts. When feeling this way one day can seem like a hundred years....I have been there. So this wait I could imagine would be particularly gruelling for you. For now it's living moment to moment, one day at a time. And then before you know it the right help in hospital will be made available to you. Actually something to look forward to - to feeling better eventually with the right help. If you look at it this way your anxiety will ease.

I can understand your fears on hospitals - I was the same, but once you become familiarised with the system your anxiety will ease off even more. And the medications will also help you there. There will also be someone you could talk in hospital whom will ease your anxiety even further. You don't have to do anything you don't want to as a voluntary patient.

In the meantime please keep posting here and we will help support you through until your admission. You are not alone.

Re: Limbo land

@embers. I experienced the same thing when I needed my first hospital stay last year. I waa suicidal and needing urgent hospitalisation butI ccouldn't get a bed for 5 days.
That was a very scary sureal time.
What got me through those 5 awful days?
* my mum - she would drop off groceries - chocolate lollies at my front door (I didn't want to see anyone )
& she would ring me twice a day - to check how I'm going and if I needed anything. And to tell me that I'm strong and soon I will be in hospital feeling better.
* sleep. All I pretty much did for the 5 days was sleep. I didn't leave my house or drive a car - too scared of what could happen. So I slept. That was best for me. Helped me get through another day.
But it is a strange sureal time. A time in limbo. So do whatever you need to to get through the next week. Seek support /help from those you can. Cocoon yourself as best as you can. Be gentle with your thinking. Wrap yourself in a blanket. Drink lots of water/tea.?
I hope this week goes quickly for you
