under 30s thread

under 30s thread

thought it might be cool to get everyone under 30 years old to share their experiences on the forum
just to help each other with "young people stuff"

Re: under 30s thread

Explain it to me @Former-Member what is it about being here that arent finding welcoming or like you belong? You have alot of supports here and we care for you. But forums are limited in what we can do like contacting other services on your behalf.

Re: under 30s thread

@Former-Member you will find many people on here that have felt the same way - but everyone is valued here (whether we can see it for ourselves or not). It is very hard sometimes to see our own value and have any kind of own self-worth when it feels that most things in our lives aren't working out but that is the beauty of the forum - we get it - and whether you feel it yourself or not - we value you as we do each and every member here.

Re: under 30s thread

I just don't understand why nobody can advocate for me because I feel like I don't have a voice

Re: under 30s thread

Hi again @Former-Member

It isn't that we can't advocate for you Jay95 - it is more about respecting the decision made by another organisation and helping to support you here and letting you know that we both value you here and that you belong here also. I hope that you can see that you can have a voice here and that although we cannot advocate on your behalf, we do respect that you are finding it very difficult to be in the position you are in - but that it is not one that is going to change immediately and the first step to dealing with that is accepting their decision. We will be here to support you along the way and hopefully you can find a sense of belonging here also because we really value you

Re: under 30s thread

I understand your frustration @Former-Member but those friends will still be there when you are able to return. In the meantime think of being here as an extension of your friendship network. Here you have already started to make connections.

I do get that you are feeling like things have been taken from you - that is a natural reaction when something is stopped and it isn't what you want but even the suggestion to come onto this site from the other one shows that they do not want you left on your own - everyone needs a little break now and then - then you can go back AND have friends here also - that to me is a big positive.

Re: under 30s thread

Hi @Former-Member I can see that you have been having a super tough day today. It looks like you have received lots of support here from Outlander, Zoe and others.

I really feel for you, Jay. When I was around your age I was rejected from a community that I had grown up in since I was three years old. Someone took a restraining order out against me such that I legally couldn't be there. After that 1-year restraining order ended, someone else took one out for a year. And then after that, someone took one out for 5 years. So in total, I was legally banned from being in that place for seven years. All of my friends and all of the people I loved were in that community.

I'm telling you this because I want you to know that I truly do understand how much you are hurting right now. The way you are asking others to contact RO and advocate for you is exactly what I used to do.

I truly wish you weren't hurting so much. I know how painful it is. The reality is that you can't go back to RO for two weeks. That is now out of your control. HOWEVER, what IS in your control is what happens after that 2 weeks ends. I know that right now 2 weeks feels like forever, but it really isn't in the big scheme of life. You DO have power in this situation. You have the power to use this 2 weeks to work super hard on learning to manage your anger in ways that won't lead to further bans. You also have the power to build connections here which, as Zoe said, can be in addition to those you have at RO. I know how awful it is to feel powerless, but you are not powerless in this particular situation, Jay. You have the power to shape what happens when you go back to RO in 2 weeks time.

Re: under 30s thread

You don't need to say anything @Former-Member - that is the wonderful thing about this forum - you can just BE and know there are people here supporting you when/if you need. Even though you don't really want to I think being around someone (your mentor) for the company for a few days will be really goodfor you.

...and we are here for added support also
