Update things have gotten worse

Update things have gotten worse

Since being hospitalised in a mental health part of the hospital

Community mental health refuses to support me (like the admitting psychiatrist that discharged me promised) even when suicidal when CMH rang to discharge me stating they refuse to help same a week after the hopsitalisation and the same day my GP stated there is no avenue for help as I exhausted everything and refuses to handle medications (like the admitting psychiatrist that discharged me promised) as he sees they wont help, refuses to refer me to a psychiatrist as pointless as he is a senoir GP with mental health level 2 training so he can prescribe but refuses to. Refuses to even look at even a mood stabilser even told me psychotherapy was pointless as I have tried that for years and I am out of options.

So between the GP appointment and CMH discharging me on the phone and refuse any future support I lost it on the phone and told them my plan on suicide as no one will help me they came and took me to another MH hospital and confiiscated the planed item the hospital then discharged me as soon as CMH left without support and a few days after was again discharged on the phone from CMH.

Had a dissociative episode in my Mental Health Nurse Practitioner's office (thursday 2 weeks ago)to the point a psychiatrist he works with and someone else was in the middle of calming me down as i have no idea what happened during dissoication) Found out last Thursday I have to have all future appointments in the middle of public in Sydney CBD as he is unwilling to risk his job (even though I have anxiety disorders and PTSD in that part of the city which he knows about)

On Friday I tried (even with phobia with phones)

Tried ringing local community mental health for support as Mental Health Nurse Practition is trying to make me dump him to save face CMH refused to talk to me after I gave my name as they stated I am discharged cant help so I emailed this to my disability advocate by the looks of thing is even refusing to help.

Re: Update things have gotten worse

So emailed this to my disability advocate for help

Hi Disability advocate

I tried calling local Community Mental Health (due to new "arrangements" with Mental health nurse parctitioner which due to anxiety disorders I cannot cope with having my 15mins sessions in middle of CBD as I had a meltdown 12 Oct and he has stated he is not willing to risk his job to have me in his office) on just to be refused to be even able to talk to anyone as I have been discharged and have to go through Mental Health Line which has stated they refuses to help me (unless they deem me suicidal at the time I have this on recording) as well as witnessed by Ex psychologist (who is a professor of psychology) intern at the last appointment I had with the Intern.

My GP has refused to deal with psychotropic medications as "he doesn't believe they will work" and refuses to refer me to a psychiatrist at my request "As he sees them pointless as he can handle medications" and been advised to doctor shop by Mental health nurse practitioner thankfully Mental health OT will be attending my next GP appointment with me on the 23rd November which I feel is too long especially with the sleep difficulties.

I have been extremely sleep deprived (on top of my mood instability) since ex psychologist notified me via email that he can no longer support me as he doesn't have the resources for crisis patients yet did not offer any VALID suggestions for support except the Mental Health Line which he knew would refuse to support me.

Her response was

Hi Simon,
I’m sorry that you are feeling this way. In terms of getting help during times when you want to talk to someone, I can only suggest perhaps joining a forum such as Beyond Blue, where you can talk online with other people facing similar challenges. The Mental Health Line and Lifeline will always help you if you are in crisis or feeling suicidal.

If you do not have confidence in your GP managing your medications and referring you to psychiatrists, I would agree with the mental health nurse’ suggestion that you try another GP. MHOT can facilitate more discussion of your concerns when she accompanies you to the next appointment.
Kind Regards,

My response was

According to beyond blue they can't help me as tried and been advised hospitalisation by beyond blue and life line even community mental health tried when I almost attempted. (plan emailed not here due to forums)

Also if I become suicidal again like last time I don't think I will be able to try to reach out for help as obviously professionals actions have demonstrated I am not worth the help and support. As it is I still don't have a reason why I tried to reach out last time and continue to try to.

So great I am correct and so is ex psychologist I am beyond help
Looks like I am totally fucked as expecting the MHOT to dump me.

So I cant talk to some one from the Mental Health Line as they will hang up on me thinking I am just lonely and attention seeking as they said this to me on speaker without knowing ex psychologist intern was sitting next to me and also not knowing I was recording.

Cant ring local community Mental Health as discharged have to go through Mental health line even though I advised them what they told me last time.

Cant ring 000 as will be interogated by Mental health line and they wont do anything.

Lifeline/beyond blue tell me to contact Mental health line/000/CMH even when I tell them all this so no help there and all of this on top of phonephobia

cc'ed this to all my supports

Friday night at around 730 my Mental health nurse practitioner advised me to hospitalise myself had a 30min arguement on how pointless it was as both nearest hospitals and community mental health team refusing to help and that he (MHNP) was trying to make me dump him with the new appointment arragements so he doesnt dump me to save his own reputation.

Well he demanded I ring 000 or be section due to safety on Monday I said fine you ring so the call ended I txted him address I was at and he couldnt get through to an ambulance himself so I had to ring and txt him back when I got to hospital so he could arrange it.

The Mh nurse that assessed me told me I was not being admitted that a refferal would be made to CMH when I tried to explain that the psychiatrist there when I was last admitted tried all my supports tried and they still refused. The conversation kept going in circles I asked to speak to an advocate or his manager I was advised no to both that he makes the desicions I asked if he was a psychiatrist he said yes.

I my vocal tone got loud and uncontrolable at around that point (due to autsim and MH) the manager came out 2 large security guards came and I was made to sit and talk to the same nurse(at this point I found out he wasnot a psychiatrist but a nurse). I could no longer efficently communicate with him as he was smirking and continulously told me a referal to CMH will be made and was forced toi take a taxi vocher and escorted by the 2 security.

Re: Update things have gotten worse

emailed this this morning

Hi all and feel very free to advise via email even if you don't feel qualified in Mental Health as I badly need advice

I am unwilling to try to go voluntary ever again as Mental health nurse practitioner advised me to Friday night which I did fearing being sectioned if I did not comply (I tried on Friday night despite me arguing about it for 30-40mins as unfortunately I was right regarding the outcome)without at least a support person with me (not my worker from support worker's organisation as not worth him losing his job breaking company policy or effecting more of his mental health as I was advised by his supervisor).

As much as I wish to go as a voluntary patient well no one will take me seriously main reasons

I want to go voluntary :-

No idea how being schedule or sectioned will affect me in the future.
Phobias around Police and their guns to point of dissociation
More control

Main reasons of refusing :-
Waste of time as always sent home and nothing done be told I am the responsibility of my GP and Local CMH which both refuse to help me not sure if this is true as never seen the discharge papers and not on my gov online health records
The assessing MH Nurse (ON FIRDAY NIGHT) impersonated a psychiatrist as I specifically asked if he was a psychiatrist he said yes which I found out later by his manger he wasn't even a mental health nurse practitioner.
Was refused to see his manager or advocate for help against the nurse as kept saying local CMH would take me on with his referral even though psychiatrist already made referral but was declined
Nurse kept smirking at me
Refused to keep me in as explained I saw suicide as a valid option with being told that there is no support in community by GP and GP refused to manage medication as was discussed by psychiatrist when exiting mental health facility Refused to keep me in until supports were organised in the community
Everyone keeps passing on responsibility of supporting me which was discussed by support worker after he spoke to old case manager who sometimes assists me (no idea what was discussed but was too hyper due to caffeine at the time to recall anything old case manager said so I passed on the phone)
to the person who assessed me at the other hospital

Alot more to the email but would require a lot of editing names etc

Re: Update things have gotten worse

I will ask a dumb question. What support did you want? It appears you know what doesn't help, you are aware of who are idiots and lack thought of providing direction for you.
Perhaps I'm not reading it properly but I'm not sure what assistance you are asking them for?

Re: Update things have gotten worse

Safe enviroment to get my moods and autism stablised with medications and support as not feeling safe at home (as live alone no family (disowned)or informal support(that are able to help me) and my "supports" are only now seeing this after telling them fully what my suicide plan was a few weeks ago which is only partially supressed at the moment.

As well as case management in the community to keep me stabilse and help with communication when issues arise

Re: Update things have gotten worse

What kind of environment? Locked ward? Open ward? Recovery house or clinic?
You appear to be able to communicate but it seems no one is listening.
I mean? are you wanting assistance with day to day tasks in the home? transport to medical appointments? inclusion in the community? food shopping? maintaining a safety plan at home? connecting with family or people?
Soz if I'm stating the obvious. Perhaps if you brainstorm here about what you want, without disclosure and keeping your privacy, it could assist you to advocate for yourself.

Re: Update things have gotten worse

Need a break from the community with maybe some supervised access to communtiy and grab things with current support worker as he knows how to usually calm me as can become a risk to self and others as dissociating more regularly in the 2-3 months as been told by my so called professionals my moods are rapidly declining to unsafe levels.

Even my MHOT is shocked how long I have supressed and stated no wonder you have broken

Re: Update things have gotten worse

Hi @sjpersonal,

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I so very badly wish I had an answer for you, but alas, I don't. My story is very similar to yours - to the point where I could only skim read your posts because I could feel myself getting triggered by your experiences. The mental health profession has no idea what to do with those of us with both autism and mental health conditions. Like you, I am desperately seeking support without any luck. I'm going to tag @NikNik and @Former-Member into this post because perhaps it is time that someone somewhere gives voice to this issue and maybe they will have some ideas about how to make that happen. Like you @sjpersonal I have significant (and definitely not unreasonable) concerns about the way the police deal with me when I'm in crisis and I think the chances of me ending up in a death-by-cop scenario are quite high. I really wish I had an answer for you @sjpersonal, but all I can do is tell you that I hear you.

Re: Update things have gotten worse

I know you don't want to be sectioned and have a fear of police, but when the police came for me they were really kind and caring. They helped me pack a bag and waited with me at the emergency until I could be seen. The police may not even be needed if you're sectioned, depending on the circumstances on how you become sectioned.

Being sectioned was irritating (as you have less say in when you can leave) but otherwise my experience was the same as being a voluntary patient. I have found no other problems with being sectioned but i would think it would only matter with some types of jobs (if they did a backgroud or psychological check for law enforcement or similar) and in an legal matter (like child custody or a crimial case).

Maybe it will be worth being sectioned if you can finally get the right treatment and can stay safe while doing so? Hospital sucks but it is a safe space.

I agree with getting a new GP. They sound terrbile.

Re: Update things have gotten worse

@sjpersonal your story is hard to hear, but unfortunately is not unique.

I can't understand why it is so hard for people to get the helpthey seek. Public Mental Health Services are a joke. Suicidal doesn't mean you will get a bed iin the hospital or even be accepted by the CMHT. I know. I used to work for the CATT.

It is so hard that you have to keep fighting and advocating for yourself.

I think your gp sounds terrrible. My suggestion would be to see a different gp. Then the new gp can give you a referral to a psychiatrist, who can check your meds and put you in touch with other services.

I really hope everything works out well for you.
