Enjoying art!

Enjoying art!

Hello all, I'm thankful to say I'm out of bad mania and dark depression. I also got a new home next to my Bundy mum!! Lately I got a new friendship 6 months now to young girl with mental health issues and we hit it off. I was able to draw her mum a birthday present and give her quotes I've illustrated. Also got to show love when she was acting unloveable. I've been creative too in writing poetry as well as drawing., I got two pictures that loved ones asked for. But still need to get right paper and paint for one. Thus one is heart wrenching it's in memory of my friend and her son who hanged himself last year. She saw kingfisher birds morning after he passed and knew it was him in a way. So I want the picture to be just as she wants. The other is my aunties 70 th present still wondering what to draw. I've left the recovery and mental illness centre here which is a positive step. It had nothing more I could gain there. And if I stayed I would be not growing anymore. I applied for uni part time next year to do a bridging course to get me into physch science degree. 4 years all up. I want to then further into art and music therapy. I'm not sleeping much but in not manic which is good. Just content. This new home and environment has made a big difference on my MH. Do any of you guys out there use art to express and heal? I've been an artist my whole life but not until my early 20s did I start using it to heal. Lots of people with bipolar are arty I found or musical. I'm both, but in my bad moment I sold my guitar which in missing now. Oh well the joys of bring unwell and getting rid of stuff cos your planning a quick exit. Glad in far from that headspace now. I've just recently stopped a night med, hence I'm awake, but over time my brain will get use to not having it and I will sleep better. My next door neighbour the one I share the other duplex unit with is a dear old Scotsman. Who gave me a fan and fancy mop and bucket and took me shopping today for nothing in return. The other side is my Bundy mum whose taken me to get my new fridge and tow it back here. So both neighbours are a true blessing. Wish I could do art now but it's to late and I'll be seedy if I draw all night. I'm thinking if sewing up some sensory cushions. I gainned a lot by doing a sensory profile. I find using the 5 senses especially with my ptsd helped a lot. And they charge the roof for sensory items. My dad was going to buy me a weighted blanket but it cost $800 and that was too much for just a blanket that has weights inside. I got refferal to a new physchiatrist who bulk bills. My next physchologist is in late November so everything in place without the need for government mental health service here. Which was no help when I was unwell and having mania and depression at same time. Workers from NGO took me in but they let me go. And the act worker that saw me just said rudely, "your always like this aren't you" when I definately wasn't always manic and depressed. So glad that's over with. Lost slot of money and belongings being unwell, but I still alive and better so I'll leave they memory in the past. But QLD health is a bit of a joke. Few good workers but negligent very much so. Well hope you don't mind my rambling, I'm off to find more good quotes. Cheers

@Gypsy7 Hi Gypsy7 I love art I am not very good at it unfortunately but I do enjoy drawing when I have the time ... I definately want a weighted blanket. I sleep with a heavy doona on even in the summer months it is the only way I can sleep ... but $800 ... can you make one yourself? I will have to look online.

It looks as though you have a nice place to live with two such kind neighbours and your Bundy mum. That is wonderful to hear. As for getting rid of stuff when you are sick I know all about that ... pain in the **** ... it is amazing I have anything at all left....

Take care, Green Pea 🙂

Re: Enjoying art!

Hey @Gypsy7, I did Art at senior college and got a High Achievement. But my first love is to write and I was told I have a gift for writing by my English Teacher. I used to top my English and Ancient History classes. Ya writing for me helps me paint a scene or scenery in words and I find it really cathartic.

I'm happy for you that you are a talented artist. It must bring you great joy and be fulfilling. Be proud of yourself as you have achieved a lot sweetie.

I'm happy to hear that you have some good and supportive neighbours.

You seem to be achieving such a lot and well, that's great sweetie.

Re: Enjoying art!

Hi there @Gypsy7. Before I fell into the funk I currently find myself in, I found art an excellent outlet for self-expression. I used to paint and draw all the time. I've had some of my artworks win awards in shows but I never thought too much about that, it was just something I enjoyed. Unfortunately, all my artworks over the years have been stolen from me (I had them in storage in a self-storage facility and it was broken into several times). I managed to give some to my Father too who, I was told, destroyed them.

Thank you for reminding me though, that art can be a beautiful way to crawl out of the shackles of mental illness. 🙂

Re: Enjoying art!

Hey @Queenie,

So happy for you that you won awards for your artwork at shows. Also, I'm sorry my dear friend that you had your artwork stolen. My writing was thrown out by my mother, who declared she did ' not love me, ' before I left. Ya I have lost so many photos and prose and stuff, it's not funny. But As I am a Christian, I don't put 'my hope' into possessions or material things. So I can let go of just about everything in this life. I attribute all my giftings to God. I paint in the ether with Jesus, I write poetry and write bars of music with Him there lol.

Bless you, BambiFawn

Re: Enjoying art!

whoa! definitely a 'feel good' story there. You are not rambling and you say it how it is. Post some of your art, illustrations and or quotes. It'd be cool to see them.
Your new home sounds like just what you needed and I'm thinking 'bundy mum' is your family? I can imagine you will put art pieces up and such.
I did do a short class course of art therapy. It was confronting and basically s***t for me but I think I wasn't ready to do that sort of therapy.
My friend who has schizophrenia writes amazing poetry. He reads stephen king books which I find scary but his poetry is beautiful, wonderous and can take my mind to places I hadn't realized.
I do write but not poetry tho I do enjoy reading it. Post 'quotes' you have found? it is always inspiring to read.
Well done in your ongoing journey.
Here's one for you?
As you think....so shall you become. Bruce Lee 🙂

Re: Enjoying art!

Hi @Gypsy7. Was good to read your story.

I'm not arty at all, but I do love art, in all it's many forms. So I'm envious that you are so creative.

Yes I wonder if you could make yourself a weighted blanket. Shouldn't be too hard.

Good to hear you so positive and that you have found some great neighbours who are so helpful.
