There's some bad info out there about healthy eating. Low carbs dont work because you need them. But there are low GI carbs and high GI. Low GI = longer lasting energy, high = shorter lasting.

And some foods we crave because we actually need whats in them...

Re: self sabotaging by bad eating and smoking

@Former-Member - why stop your healthy living and turn to bad diet and smoking?
I've been a smoker for 34 years. Wouldn't wish the addiction on anyone.
I've been a drinker for around 5 years. Wouldn't wish the addiction on anyone.
But I understand the strong desire to self harm - via bad lifestyle choices. And punish ourselves. But it makes my mental health worse. So much worse and it becomes a vicious cycle.

Hi @Former-Member,

It's nice to see you here in Forum Land again. I think it would probably vary from person to person as to how long it would take to totally screw yourself up with unhealthy eating, smoking and not sleeping much. For me, I know that eating too much junk food several days in a row will start to make me feel yuck very quickly, and a single bad night's sleep makes me struggle (which means I have huge empathy for those around here in Forum Land who super struggle with sleep). I've never smoked so I don't really know about that. I'm always amazed at the cost of cigarettes so I guess if nothing else, it would have the short-term impact of the expense.

Personally, I super like working at the things I can control (like eating properly and aiming for a good night's sleep). There is so much in my life that I CAN'T control, that it is super important to me to control the things I can in order to manage my emotions etc.

@Former-Member And that is completely ok. Everybody is different.

I don't think she needs to be patronised with a smile.

Life is about survival, and surviving well. Sometimes if the people around us (in our tribe) only give us attention or be nice to us when we're injured or sick, then we see being sick/injured as the optimal state to be in to survive. We need the people in our tribe to not turn on us and see us as an enemy and we find any way to do that. And sometimes the mocking & scoffing actually sticks, and you wake up one morning thinking "yeah **** me I deserve it." But its counter-survival. If someone's thoughts/actions lead you to think that they have the problem.

@SGde3a and @Former-MemberI'm really sorry if my post came across as patronizing. From my perspective I was acknowledging that it is completely ok for others to choose to control things in ways that are different to how I choose to have a sense of control in my life. Thus my aim was to show respect for the choices that you are making @Former-Member. I'm sorry if I did not communicate that well.

As for sharing life stories or opinions, well that is all we have. I don't have the remotest idea how long it might take you personally to be negatively impacted by things such as lack of sleep because these things will affect each person differently. All I and anyone else can do is share our own experiences. I'm sorry if this is not what you were seeking. Perhaps there are others here in Forum Land who might be able to be more helpful than me. @Former-Member @Former-Member.
