Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

yeah, ille be going back. I love those groups at Arafmi.

Its during the day too.

Ille tell you what is like.......

I think the more support you get, the more info you get is good.

As well as a good facillitator; theres people who 'try and run the group' who you just ignore and if the fallitator is good, they have pionters what to do. it def. gave me a voice.

the groups def. gave me more pionters on my own wellbeing. and how to take care pf myself.

Good luck @Mazarita but they teach you like; meetings and brilliant course days you can go to and hear the best speakers....

Re: Night Shift

@PeppiPatty Next meeting with my group is next week. Then if I want to go back, it will be every second week after that. At 9.30am today my peer mentor is coming to take me to meditation class and she's going to participate too. Looking forward to it but I'm going to be a bit sleepy. It's 3.30am here. I'm still quite wired from today though...

Re: Night Shift

I am so glad that you are liking your peer support worker ... meditation can be great and you might eventually make friends.

I am up but will sleep soon ...

Re: Night Shift

Hi @Appleblossom,

How are you today? Yes, the meditation this morning was good. I only got a few hours sleep and was hoping I wasn't going to fall asleep and start snoring as I do, lol. But managed to stop myself from falling just as it was about to happen. Phew.

I'll be heading to bed soon too...

@Mazarita

Still not in bed ... you made me laugh about the meditation ... many many times I have drifted off into sleep ..

I have been ruminating today ...and made French Onion Soup and had a great choir practise ...

more people spoke to me at choir practise today and I felt a bit more accepted ... also the music is starting to come together and our task master of a conductor was gave us an easier time of it ... he is very good but sometimes it is difficult to please him ...

Re: Night Shift

@Appleblossom,

French onion soup, oh yum, haven't had it for many years. It's an old favorite dish. I like that we were both singing today (though my faltering attempts at group meditation can't compare to what you are doing). Glad you had a great practise. Hope your rumination was slow and steady and accompanied by some deep and easy breathing.

I've just finished up week four of smoking reduction. I have been precisely tallying my intake throughout each day over all this time and am glad to see that I am successfully cutting back week by week. I have halved my consumption of the green since starting with the psychologist. Feeling okay about that for now and feeling better about him after ruminating on that last appointment for some time this week.

Re: Night Shift

Congratulations on managing the intake of substances ... it is a good feeling and your lungs will love it.

Ruminating can be good if it helps as sort things out in our minds ..are you ok about him?

Re: Night Shift

@Appleblossom Well, the bottom line is I am getting results with him. He has since the beginning wanted me to slowly withdraw rather than go cold turkey, partly because of how long I've been smoking both tobacco and green. I actually tried going cold turkey on the green earlier in the week but only managed it for a day. That was my idea to do that, which he thought could mean I was setting myself up for failure. I did fail at that attempt but I'm choosing to focus instead on the partial success I'm having with overall reduction so far. Anyway, I see him again tomorrow and interested to see how this session goes. I'm sort of trying to approach it now as a situation where we may not even really need to like each other for the therapy to be effective.

Re: Night Shift

I think you are right about being effective ... some of it is strategies and clear follow through ... other times the rapport is hugely important ...

I have been going through my old thread ... reading about I how felt 3 months ago ... and reliving some of the support and camraderie we had ... with @PeppiPatty and @Former-Member and @Jacques it wasimportant for me ... kept me going ... when I thought everything was falling apart ... and joking ... and you hadnt even met your new therapist then ...
