Night Shift

Night Shift

Since I am awake at 4am I thought I'd start this thread for those of us who have trouble sleeping and might find it helpful to have a place to go to chat. Whatever gets you through the night is alright.

To get the ball rolling, I'll just say that I enjoyed being part of the Topic Tuesday discussion tonight. I wish it was possible for these events to be weekly rather than monthly. Either way, thanks SANE and all the people I've met on here over recent months.

Edited June 2016 and February 2017: Night Shift is now open 24 hours a day. To join in, just click through to the last page of the thread at the top right of this post to get to the latest message.

Edited April 2017 and June 2017: For the sake of better communications between members here, I am adding that this thread is meant to be a caring, kind and gentle place of sharing. Humour is welcome, as long as its not unkindly directed towards other members. Hope your time in this chat thread is rewarding.

Re: Night Shift

Wow @Faith-and-Hope you have had quite a ride as has your husband. I think you have incredible strength and determination to endure your roller coaster. I believe you and your family will be able to work on it and one day it will bring you closer again and him back to better physical and mental health. Wishing you best wishes and enduring patience. 😊💜💐

H @Former-Member

Across the last 6 - 7 months WH has opened up work commitments interstate and overseas. While these are legitimate projects, they are also reasons to spend time alone, because it is almost impossible for him to adhere to his daily regimen of planned meals and exercise in the dysfunctional form they are in (he is oblivious to this by the way) and sustain his relationships and participate properly in a family dynamic.

Its very sad, but while he is in this denial stage, there is very little we can do about it. Trying to "wake him up" sent our family into a tail-spin last year that nearly derailed all of us in terms of our relationships and work, school, life commitments. Not going there again ❣❣

I have no fear that there is a hidden somebody else in his life - this regimen leaves him exhausted and shirt on sleep, injured, and driven in a way that can't sustain anything else. His love for us, and desire to do the right thing by us is still obvious too, and when he goes away, such as this last time with his mother, he endeavours to take one of us with him, at least for part of the time. It's a gourd-will offering, if you like.

Hi @Faith-and-Hope. How are you feeling about all this if you don't mind me asking. I see you as the one coping with everything, juggling it all (which by the way I admire) but you must have so many mixed emotions in all this.

Re: Night Shift

@Faith-and-Hope, thanks so much for sharing your husband's journey in detail. It's great to get to know your situation more intimately. With my friend, I have seen her steadily gaining weight over more than a decade and witnessed a decline in physical and mental health as well. Needless to say, I have tried, and continue to try, to discuss things with her in various ways but she is very fixed in her habits and has an aversion to all western medicine really. Mostly I just listen to her as she describes the trouble she is in these days, give her massages occasionally to relieve some of the pain she suffers and be a friend and regular companion through it all. Hugs to you for what you are going through. It's wonderful to be able to talk about these things openly.

@Former-Member, it's wonderful that you are finding the forum so helpful. I have found it that way too. You are a wonderful addition to the family here. 🙂

@eth, thanks again. I'm still feeling wired but I will go to bed soon.

Took ages writing that last message. Sometimes it's hard to keep up in here! It seems we are all active minded people and it seems like we all type fast.

@Faith-and-Hope, I feel privileged that you have felt safe enough to share so much of your story here tonight. You are indeed a very loyal wife and the quite clearly the rock of your family.

@eth, @Former-Member, I am going to bed now. Hope we are all able to wind down now and get some quality zzzzs.

@plasmo, hoping you have dropped off to sleep now. If not, I hope you get there soon.
